Fog from the air vents

Its been pretty warm here in social for a while now so my AC has been on when ever I drive. A couple of days ago I noticed "fog" coming out of my vents after making a quick stop.
I'm hoping it could just be that its low on freon and not that I need to switch out the heater core.
What are some tell tale symptoms of either being low on freon and or having a failing heater core?

Heat should work if the heater core is fine, correct?

The heater core would probably be OK. You would smell coolant in your cabin.

The "fog" could just be condensation. Does it only happen when you first start out then come to a stop? The A/C may not have cooled the evaporator down enough to cool the air. Also, since you said it does it when you come to a stop, maybe try closing the recirculation setting so it just cools the cabin air instead of having it open and always cooling that hot/humid air from outside. Lastly, just make sure your refrigerant charge is sufficient to cool down the cabin. Mine gets fairly cold out of the vent on a 90 degree day in about 20-30 seconds. On a hot day your compressor should cycle about once every 45 seconds and your low pressure line (passenger side, silver line with service port with a cap with an "L" on it) should be pretty cold to the touch maybe even a touch of frost on it.

Im not sure if it smells of coolant or not. It smells like it does when it has just rained if that makes sense?

I noticed the "fog" did start up yesterday mid 90 mile trip when I switched from the recirculation air to outside air. It was so noticeable that my wife and I could feel it in our throats.
