Fog light breakout as daytime running lights

I've searched but didn't see if anyone has put lights in the fog light breakouts, disabled their DRL, and then used the plug to enable DRL on the fog lights. I was thinking amber leds in the fog light holes with an on/off switch would be awesome but don't know where to start.

I basically did what you are looking to do but used my factory fogs. Wired them to be able to be turned on whenever the truck is on but turn off when the ignition is switched off.

Works great and functions perfectly as DRLs.
