Fog Light replacement

Hi all,

So I just noticed that one of my fog lights on my 11 SR5 was smashed in. The fish eye glass and bulb are gone. 2 questions.

1: Is there another aftermarket fog light that would be brighter and a great repalcement?

2: If its not worth going route 1, any idea what the part number is for the assembly? I have not looked under at it to determine it if it one piece or two and assume I can replace just the fog assembly and not have to do the orange running light too. Any ideas?

Thanks, everyone. I printed out the instructions from Yota tech, but can't get tot he manual link at work. I will try it from home. Thanks.
 
Yes the fog light is a one piece sealed unit, so if you say the glass is gone, you're going to need to order an entire fog light from the dealer; it's also left and right specific, so make sure to order the correct side. And yes, it's separate from the turn signal assembly. To replace it all you really need to do is unscrew it from behind, disconnect the plug and pull it out from behind.

I recall there's only one bolt holding it on and I could reach it just by sticking my hand up from under the bumper, but I also have a TE and I think there's a lot more open space. If you have an SR5/LE it might be a bit more complicated and you might need to remove some trim pieces to reach it? I am not really sure about that...but all in all it should be straight forward and I'm sure you can figure it out.

Below is a screen shot from the FSM, in case you are having trouble downloading it. It seems to tell you to remove the entire bumper, but I think you might not need to if you can just figure out a way to get into that spot. Like I said I was easily able to pull mine off and put it back in no problem, so hopefully there's a way to do that on the SR5/LE too.

That is helpful, thanks. The dealership wants $184 per light. Yikes. I am starting to look around to see if I can find a good aftermarket place, which I think I have found. Any ideas. Maybe some form of upgrade in the same plug and play type assembly? I saw CarId had these.

Then there were these Xenon HID ones. But I am not sure I trust the site. I also do not know much about HID lights to buy the first pair I see. Any insight would be welcome.

I've been wanting to try the JW Speaker fog/driving lights. Had a set on my JKU with Rigid mounts and they were night and day with the stockers. Just haven't had the time to really look at whether or not they will fit...
 
Winjet sells a replacement fog light assembly for the 2010+ that they claim is a direct swap, but i can't say i have any firsthand experience with them... certainly a lot less $ than OEM. Winjet® - Toyota 4Runner 2010-2012 Clear OEM Style Fog Lights

what would be even better, IMHO, is if they offered a yellow lens replacement for the 5G as they do for the 06-08... Winjet® WJ30-0077-12 - Toyota 4Runner 2006-2008 Yellow OEM Style Fog Lights

a few of the Tacos in my area are running those (or similar) and when we have crazy fog like the last few days i find myself green with envy for the yellow fogs.

be sure to post up what you end up doing. apart from adding additional fogs/running lights, i don't think anyone has documented replacing their factory ones yet. good luck!
 
i just ordered an OEM replacement from Amazon for 70 bucks.....lot less than 184 at dealership or 124 at auto parts store............

~10 bucks in yellow vinyl and about 30 mins of your time can get you this:







Output beam is as yellow as can be, IMO pretty close to what you see from those OEM Lexus yellow fog lights :)

The fog lights on the TE bumper are stupid simple to remove, just reach up undo one bolt and they fall right out, lol.

yeah, i've considered the Lamin-X film. did you do a single layer or double it up, eddie? how's it holding up? and are you using H9 fogs or the OEM H11?

I actually used R-vinyl film, only one layer...not sure if it's the same color/opacity as lamin-x? It's actually some very deep yellow stuff man! I had a set of yellow glass H11 bulbs laying around, and I compared one yellow bulb and one clear bulb after I put on the vinyl, I absolutely could not tell any difference in yellowness (yellow vinyl w/ yellow blub vs. yellow vinyl w/ clear bulb).

It's been holding up great, after over 1 year it looks pretty much brand new to be honest. I put in the H9 bulbs down there as well, since the yellow "seems" to reduce the output a tiny bit. However, keep in mind the H9 bulbs don't have painted tips so it's got a tiny bit more glare (but the reduced output from the yellow over lay appears to balance it out).

I rarely use it in the city, but the few times I forget to turn them off, I've never been flashed by on coming drivers :)

thanks for the tip, eddie! looks like good stuff. i had some pretty meh yellow H9 bulbs in the fogs but recently noticed i was getting some condensation in the housings. put the original H11s back in and haven't seen any moisture in there since. :confused:

anyway, for a tenner the vinyl looks great. thanks!

Yeah...you've got to be careful with those off brand bulbs, sometimes the seals at the base of the bulbs are all different sizes and don't form a nice seal with the fog light housing. You could try swapping around the seals off the original H11 bulbs, that sometimes fixes the issue.
 
Bringing the thread back. ANyone look into the LED fog lights as a replacement?

something like these. But these seem to mount to the bottom, IDK.
