Fog Lights as DRL

Can DRL be switched from High Beam to Fog Lights on 2014+ 4Runner?
I looked around the forum and so far I didn't find any relative information on this. Did anyone do this type of mod of switching DRLs from High Beam to something else? I saw a thread on how to disable DRL, but not really how to make different light function as DRL instead of factory High Beam.

Bumping this thread....I'd really love to make my fog lights the DRLs. Is there a solution for this?

Many Canada Tire stores close to the border handles such situations. They occasionally carry some kit for that. But it may do other complications as it happened to us on a different vehicle.

Your best bet is to buy the factory DRL/Projector Fog lights.
They are made by Auer, and they are easy to install, as the wiring harness is included, as is the dash switch.
Here is an install video from Auer's YouTube page:

I was looking at that option but I was hoping there was a simpler and cheaper way of switching them via wiring.

Couldn't you just turn on the low beams and fogs and just leave the switch in the on position...that's what I do.

I don't think Ive ever even ran my DRLs, been doing that since I drove it off the lot.

I did this - but added the Camry sensor in the dash so all in the interior lights and navigation are auto adjusting for light conditions.

But I'm also curious about this simply because I swapped to high output LEDs for my high beams so my DRLs don't work anymore. It would be nice to split off that wiring to some small lights just so I don't accidentally blind someone by having it in the wrong spot.

I wish there was a way to setup that OEM DRL fog light kit so that I can use my original DRL switch on the blinker thingy

How do you do the Camry sensor mod?

Super easy. Buy the $12 Camry light sensor. Pop the blank plug out of the dash and plug it in. But for some unknown reason only some 4runners come with the wiring in place. Some don't. Mine did. So it was super easy. Here's more info: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/106577-automatic-headlights-night-possible-mod-8.html

It only gives you auto dim functionality for the dash stuff - like the navigation screen and dash lights. It doesn't do anything to the headlights on/off. But I just leave the headlights on all the time and it's as close to auto headlights as I can get without installing an aftermarket setup. I have the electronics already in my garage parts bin for full auto headlights, but I haven't been motivated to do it yet. This works pretty decent for me.

I got there, but it took a combination of mods.
The DRL disable mod by bending the the relay pin back.
Antman’s anytime fog mod, allowing fogs to stay on with brights and full control of the fogs.
The end result is my headlights are set to auto and my fogs switch is on. Never have to touch either and fogs run anytime the truck does.

Look at this baller with his automatic headlights.... :photo:

Exactly. If I could install the Auer lights and keep the existing switches, I'd be all over it. I already have a fog light switch and a DRL switch... why do I want additional switches?

has anyone tried running HID in the fog light housing as AUX lighting? Trying to avoid fancy light bars and all that nonsense.

Fog lights are not designed nor intended to throw light down the road, like an AUX light would. Their purpose is to focus light directly in front of the vehicle. So using a brighter bulb with more lumens in the stock fog lights will not accomplish anything but making the ground directly in front of your rig brighter.
