Folding seat button broken

Very disappointing. Not Toyota-like at all. On the driver's side rear seat, the button that releases the back is broken or has fallen inside the seat back. I need to release that to fold it down. Any help is appreciated.

Happened to my 05 awhile back, I just stick my finger in the hole and push the rod down to release the seat back. Keep forgetting to look for a new one, thanks for the reminder.

That did it. I hadn't wanted to do that b/c I wasn't sure it would work and it was painful. So, based on your rec, I went ahead, but I grabbed a pen to push it with. Worked like a charm.

I have the same problem on the passenger side. Funnily enough, that's the side that's easier to disengage. That threaded rod slides down with barely a touch but I practically have to stand on the driver's side release to get it to disengage.
 
drivers side issues here too. it still works, but i have to push 10x as hard as the passenger side. I've tried to put the button back on the rod, but it's basically impossible, even though the button seems to be in good condition.
 
I bought mine used and realized that button was missing. It's basically just a threaded plastic button. I found the part number somewhere online and ordered a new one ($5) and 2 plastic seat bolt covers. I think it may have been from toyota partz or something like that

how did you get it on there? I have tons of issues getting the bolt into the middle of the button.

Totally sucked when mine slipped off. I slipped two flatheads between the seat and the plastic housing to make an X with the bolt at the crux of the x and then about 20 minutes of trial and error. Finally caught the thread and screwed it on.
 
Found my button!

It was on the floor, where it had fallen out when I put down the setback. It's diameter is about 3/4" and it's an inch and about 1/16" tall.

I'll try to attach two pics.

Found my button! Part 2

Reinstalling will be a pain. I'm going to try to wrap some dental floss around the post to pull towards center so I can thread the thing back on. Wish me luck!
 
Reinstalled it!

Well frankly, that was pretty easy. Just made a sorta slipknot/lasso, dropped it around the shaft and fiddled around 'til the button found it. (Insert joke here.)

Moral of the story: When you use this button try to turn it clockwise to ensure it stays put. Design idea: These should have a slot on top so that you could grab a coin from your pocket and tighten them from time to time.

I know this is an older post. I bought the button and can’t get it back on. I tried the thread method and it doesn’t catch on the screw. Any recommendations is greatly appreciated.

Patience.

Make sure the rod is centered in the hole as you turn clockwise and it will eventually catch.
 
Old post, but is it worth buying a new button or should the old one stay in place if I can manage to get it threaded on? Is there a way to disassemble part of the seat to make it easier? Not looking forward to the process if it's as painful as it looks to be.

It's really not that difficult. If you need to, pop the back off the seat, it pops on just like a door panel. Easy to pop it off and then you can grab the rod and move it to where you need to thread the button on.
 
The button on the passenger side of mine won't go down. The seat won't lock in the upright position either. It seems like the 'C' locking jaws are not releasing and clamping on the anchor point. Anyone else run into this?
 
Mine was like this when I bought my truck. Found an OE replacement for a couple bucks.
