Doubtful that either will be an option.
I'm guessing a standard v6 engine across all models, but likely something new or updated from what is currently in the 5th gen.
Probably a 6+ speed transmission as well.
Time will tell...

We might see a tuned 3.5L Atkinson engine with a turbo and 6 speed transmission. The limited will get a hybrid option. No supercharger that's for sure TRD cancelled it. I hope for 335 hp/torque at least so no more up and down from the transmission going uphill or towing. I'm just guessing here.

But the 4.6L 1UR-FE already is a Timing Chain motor? It's the "baby" brother of the 5.7L 3UR-FE... do you mean the 4.7L 2UZ-FE?
My interest would be piqued if they could even make a diesel rotary work... considering that the Gasoline ones were susceptible to Pinging (and twats doing 8k RPM 1st Gear drops...) that detonated those engines (then again modern Turbo GDI engines seem to do the same thing with pinging...) I can't see how they'd get such a high compression to work?
Also why am I even indulging in this!?

On a more serious note, I don't expect a V8 or S/C V6 to be an option. A refreshed version of the current 4.0L V6 or the Tacoma's new 3.5L V6, either probably paired to a 6AT. Quite frankly, they should be moving onto an 8AT at this point, but I won't hold my breath for that

OP, the truth is nobody here knows anything about the 6th gen yet or when it will be offered. Well, probably a few people do but they cannot say. right now there are many threads already on the 6th gen. Please search and stop making new threads about a subject that is pure conjecture. Got it?

Most likely Toyota will put a V8 in whatever the Lexus version of the 4Runner will be called, so that they can 'differentiate the product'.
Hey, I have been there, listening in on a bunch of marketing guys in a room. The basic idea is, you want to have a (profitable) product for every price range that somebody wants to spend. If they want to spend $80k for X and you don't have an X that costs $80k they go to the other brand. Its sad but its true.
Concerning a supercharger, I recall there was a rather long thread, here on this forum, about Toyota TRD was working on a turbo charger, and then 'something happened' and development stopped. If I was a product manager, and I heard that we tried a supercharger and it 'didn't meet expectations or requirements, I would be hesitant to try it again.
So, I agree with most everybody else, most likely the 6th gen 4Runner will have the same engine as the Tacoma.
Do not expect my next post to be serious.
