For those it would interest: 2008 IIHS Mid-sized SUV crash test awards

Hello all. The noon news had a blurb about the 2008 mid-sized SUV 40 mph crash test results. Nothing mentioned about our beloved T4R on their Top 10 lists, but when I did a search on their main page, the overall results for 2003 to current T4R results are good. The only "poor" score was for a rear end crash, and I've seen the actual "real life" pics of a poster here who had that happen to them. I'm happy with the resulting pics from IIHS tests. I do have what was optional in 2003 extra air bags. I feel it's safe to say, in one of these wrecks, you'd be a 'walking wounded', but you'd be alive.
The news video is annoying, as the announcer is talking about the SUV's who did the worst, but they are showing pics of the one that did the best, Nissan Murano. So just watch the vid for what eventually they show, carnage on Jeeps!!

T4R search results-all models

This last link will let you click on what ever catergory your T4R falls into. Trying to find the videos of the actual crashes, but the photos are good too. I feel safe in my T4R. Knowing that if it's my fault and I crash head on, I'll live. This however comes along with knowing what capabilites the SUV comes with and not exceeding them. Well, myself and the T4R!!

I agree, nice to know the 4Runner is good. I actually looked at this stuff before I bought mine. I limited my choices by insisting my '07 had the side-airbags.

One thing to keep in mind about the rear collision is there's a very good chance the 4Runner will be lifted up by a low bumpered vehicle rather than smashed square in the back. That'll help dissipate energy before the structure does serious crunching.

Another thing to think about in other collisions is that the mass of the 4Runner is greater than many cars. That gives the occupants of the 4Runner a leg up assuming the collision is with a smaller lighter car.

Yet another good reason to have that tow bar on the back! Well other than it will get destroyed as well as any custom hitch reciever plug! My brother lifted his Taco and then later Tundra. I love his liscense plate frame. "Can't Stop? Smile as you go under!"
