All you guys that conceal carry with an IWB holster, where does your gun sit? On the hip? Small of your back? Other places? Advantages, disadvantages, opinions on carry locations.

Depends on what I'm carrying. My Kahr CW9 will sit at 3:30 (I'm right handed), my LCR 38spl is at 2:00 (appendix position). My larger guns will be OWB carry but that pretty much when I'm stomping around the woods or going to a bowling pin shoot, then it will be a SP101 357mag, Sig P225 or FiveseveN.

I carry a full stainless Kimber Eclipse 1911 compact, so it's pretty heavy. I used to have a cheap Uncle Mike's IWB holster that worked well at 3:00. I recently switched to a Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe and am very comfortable at the 4:00 position. Plus it distributes the weight a bit better.
If it's really hot outside I will carry my little Kel-tec PF9 that is fine at the 3:00 position.
As you can see, I'm not a fan of having a barrel facing any major organs or arteries. I don't like the motion required for a cross-draw or small of the back draw.
I would head to a gun shop and try out some different holsters to see what works for you though. GL and be safe.

+1 on crossbread super tuck. I carry Karh PM9 right at 3:30 - 4 position. I used to have a Milt Sparks IWB holster but it was a little to thick for my frame. Nice holster though. The crossbread is pretty ugly IMO but it’s the thinnest I found and conceals the gun very well.
+2 on the crossbreed holsters. have tried many concealable holsters and this one is by far the best i have ever used and i have had it for about 4 years, no problems. to answer your question, right side, kidney area seems most comfortable for me and is most concealeable. carry a glock 27, but have also used a glock 23 in same holster and it is just as concealable. do yourself a favor and buy a crossbreed holster. if you don't like it, you can send it back for a full refund (at least when i bought mine, that was their policy). they make them for almost any gun and they are AMERICAN MADE!! good luck

For me, i use the cheapo nylon Blackhawk holster ($10-14): BLACKHAWK! Inside-The-Pants Holster - BLACKHAWK!
It has worked well...lasts a fairly long time...and comfy. No strap. Easy to put on and take off. And cheap.

I always have a Ruger LCP in my front pocket in an in the pocket holster from Galco. I have other weapons for CC, but I rarely carry them. Shot placement of the little .380 with the self defense loads should be plenty to stop a situation.

The only problem with this position for me is that if you have accidental discharge (from gun!), then you are in for a world of bleed from your femoral artery (aka DEATH, unless you're near hospital or stranger is a vascular surgeon). LCR's trigger is fairly heavy (i think)...so, you're OK...but in general, i avoid this area.
I also have Smartcarry "crotch carry". I don't like it because it takes a long time to get used to it. But this is better than appendix carry because here, you just shoot off your nuts...your manhood will be hurt badly but you won't die from bleeding shock.

its all about you and your own safety. where you feel its most comfortable, where you feel you have the best draw from. try it out everywhere and see what fits.

I agree 100%, I'm not wild about appendix carry but I only do it with my LCR (10lb 6oz pull, 5 pull avg) and its only on some occasions. 3:30 is my preferred position.
BTW I have 3 crossbreed holsters and they are great, about to order another. The founder/owner recently died from a heart attack, maybe a month ago, but they are still making holsters for they are a family business.

Agree. Also, regardless what kind/type of holster you wear, I think you're going to find yourself pushing/pulling it into the position that feels most comfortable. I see colleagues with their weapons farther back, some farther forward, but all are still strong-side carrying.
I don't really like IWB holsters. I have a Blade-tech Eclipse for my duty weapon, but when I saw how basic it (and most all other kydex holsters) was, I bought some kydex online and made my own for my Walther PPS using a heat gun and some rivets.

Interesting to see how many people carry at the 3:30/4 o'clock position. That is exactly where I carry my S&W Bodyguard .380 Auto with a leather IWB holster. I found it's the perfect position because right at 3 o'clock it sits on my hip bone which is uncomfortable and makes the gun print more on my clothing. I'm a thin guy so having a gun about the size of a smart phone makes it much easier for me to conceal when I'm carrying IWB.
How do you like your M&P Shield and what caliber do you have? I really like my Bodyguard but I would prefer a striker fire pistol rather than one like the Bodyguard with a heavy, double action trigger pull. I'd also like a little more stopping power by moving up to a 9mm for concealed carry. The Shield is on my short list for sure.
