Toyota caught flat-footed without enough SUVs, crossovers

These guys are saying they don't have enough SUV,s!
I don't think they don't have enough, but after seeing the new Rav4 and Sequoia, I would say Toyota is turning into boring Ford of the 1970's. Talk about dated cheaped out vehicles. The 4R better up its interior for the next gen as well, or Toyota will be sorry.

I find this interesting as only Toyota and Jeep have a true off road SUV. Toyota makes a full size SUV that no other manufacturer can touch. I think what we are seeing are some long lasting effects from the Tsunami. It seems like they were set back five years or more. I don't know, I look at all the SUV crossover vehicles and see the same designs with different head and tail light and a different grill.

I don't think they were aggressive enough with the new Tacoma. I hope they push the bar again with a redesigned Tundra. I'm not a diesel feller but they really do need to answer this. They have Hino under their belt so this shouldn't be all too difficult.

As for the 4Runner, man. I don't know. I hope they keep it utilitarian with an updated drivetrain. Many on this forum have said it and I tend to agree that I didn't buy a 4Runner because I was looking for bells and whistles. (lane departure, radar cruise, flashy mirrors, blind spot, auto pilot.) I wanted a truck I could drive. I wanted something I could mod if I wanted to. Not much left out there in SUV land that you can do this too. I hope this remains. The more tech-laden a vehicle gets, the less back yard mechanic modifications can be done. Already, I'm not aware of a 5th gen SASed. It's physically possible sure, but electronically not so much. It's only going to get worse.

The problem as I heard it is that Toyota in Japan doesn't understand countries like the US and Australia that LOVE their trucks and SUV. I recall talking with an FTS who's met with higher ups and having seen the NA Toyota having to basically beg Toyota to keep making Tacoma/Tundra. Despite them having their Texas production over capacity to sell them. The "higher-ups" who run the show in Japan just don't get us culturally.
