(For V6 owners only) would you trade-in your V6 for V8 if...

I'm lucky enough to have had both. A 06 4X4 V-6 and a 07 4X4 V-8. I had traded down from a 4X4 Sequoia with the V-8 to the 06 and really missed the power. V-8 had plenty of power even in a Sequoia. The V-6 had power, it just seemed to work harder. The transmission also seemed to hunt a lot and gear up and down while in overdrive. This got annoying to the point where I just left it out of overdrive. The V-8 handles all the above with ease. I lady drive a car so I'm hoping my mpg's aren't too bad. The transmission works a lot less on the V-8. It does have a heavier feel. I'm happier with the V-8 but if the Runner only came in V-6 I would still have one.

Naw, I like the V-6 in my 2006 runner. I drove a V-8, and admittedly it has more pull, but not like I expected. The V-6 is surprisingly spritely once it gets revved up a bit. It does have a bit of lag time until it hits the power band, but once it does, it'll squat the ass end and away we go.
I'm a hot rod guy too, so for it to have plenty of power for me to enjoy driving it, says alot. My other vehicles are fast, 2000 Ram has a 360 with headers, duals, 4.10 gears, Auburn LSD, shift kit, and Mopar Performance PCM. Runs about a 14.8 in the quarter. My 96 Ram has a 500HP KRC race engine in it, way too many mods to list, got sideways on Texas Motor Speedway at 115 coming out of turn two while running it on the track at a charity run event.
So even after driving these other vehicles I have, I still dont feel any lack of passing power, acceleration from a light, etc when driving it.
And after all, it's our family SUV, and like said before, with my super impulsive right foot, not having gobs of torque/HP at my disposal is a good thing. Keeps me out of trouble, though it still have plenty of power that I can still get some tickets in it lol.

V6 vs. V8
My .02 cents. I'm in the fortunate position to own both. You see a few months ago I talked my Fiancee(18 days and counting down) into trading in her Dodge Dakota SLT Plus for a new 2006 Tacoma TRD Quad Cab.
I like both engines a lot and admire the punch and spirit of the V6. When it hits it's sweet spot I'm amazed at how quick the truck takes off. The V6 produces all the power anyone would ever need short of heavy hauling.
With that said I'm extremely pleased with the V8 in my 4R Limited. I can't get enough of the growl the V8 produces when I put my foot down or seeing the speedometer needle climb like a tachometer. Making it even more enjoyable is the 16 MPG I'm getting around town even with my heavy foot.
Both are great engines no doubt and I think the decision comes down to personal preference. Now tell me what came first the chicken or the egg?

I really think it really has to do with what you are doing. I do not tow anything large and based on recent test drives on even other v8s (volvo SUV, Grand Cherokee v8 4.7), the 4runner v6 was very close in power/torque feel. It is plenty for eveyday use and I think most offroad trips. I will eventually get a couple of add ons such as better air intake. The mileage is suprisingly good compared to other similar vehicles (even compared to our audi A6). The GN (v6 turbo) is a different story but on its defense it pumps out 550hp, 620lbs of torque B-).

I'm pretty neutral on this debate. I pull a 5,000# boat with ease and able to pull into traffic doing 50 with ease. How bout this somebody get a switch from a V6 and tries it in their V8! Worth a try.

I've been driving since 1965 my first car was a 1965 Chevy Malibu SS with a 350hp 327... and have never gotten over the need for V-8 horsepower...I love my V-8 sport 4 runner for me it was a no brainer JMO.

The multi-mode was the deal breaker for me too. I've since learned that oil changes in the V6 are easy which is another plus. The V8's are so sweet but AWD only seems so inefficient...
I love this 4Runner so much I will probably look for a low mileage, used 08 V8 in 3-4years. My V6 will have 60k and if they're sissifying the 4Runner for '09 or '10 then I want an '08. At that point the 4Runner won't be a daily car, it'll be a weekend and tow car so the AWD thing won't matter to me.

hell no. the 6 cylinder tows just fine, i towed a filled u-hual trailer, a large one, not those dinky ones, from raleigh to charlotte and it did just fine. with gas being the way it is, the only 8 cylinder i'll ever own is the beast in my 'stang. other than that, hell...i wish the 4runner came with a 4 cylinder, i'd get that instead....ok, maybe it's pushing, but you get the idea. you guys can have your 7eet V* sticker in the coner of the grill, i'll be ok.

But personally, gas prices don't matter much to me. I drive my 4Runner less than 7000 miles per year, on average, so I obviously chose my V6 4Runner for reasons other than fuel economy. Getting better gas mileage was just an added bonus!!!
