Very clean. Can't believe the price though. Are 4Runner prices holding steady because Land Cruiser prices are through the roof?

Who knows. I can find clean 4runners around the country for pennies but here in Texas, they're expensive. Sure, they're rust free but still. This 4runner should be sellling for $9,500 in dallas; at least at a dealer.

It's the same here in N. Arizona. Mine was on the lot back in 2011 for 11,500 with 136,XXX.
Anyway truck looks nice. I'm not a leather fan personally. I would check all his documents. If basic maintenance hasn't been done then you should use that to leverage the price down a bit.

That's the plan. I have a big checklist of things to go over. I'm gonna try and see what 3rd gen specific items need to be taken care of (LBJ, timimg belt, brakes) and use it to my advantage. Thanks!

That price is around $1,000 high IMO. I bought my 2001 4Runner SR5 with a ToyTec lift and supercharger last year for $8,000. I agree the 4R prices in Texas are higher than most places for some weird reason. As for beating up the PO for basic maintenance; good luck. That kind of mileage is due for maintenance no matter what. Best bet is to use it for leverage to bring the price down some but I would not sweat it too much.

What's KBB for your area? $7500 seems high to me too....but these things do tend to hold their value.

Just talked to the owner. he has had it for 2 years and the 4runner has been dealer maintained its whole life. It also has a new radiator and he says not transmission problems.

KBB for 4runners show below market value here

That just means market value is inflated from private sellers....not that it's a generally accepted baseline.

If you went to the dealer, NADA or KBB would be the determining factor for what you got for it. Buying it privately shouldn't be any different and those numbers should be used to educate the seller.

Just b/c someone on CL asks for the moon or prices his item similarly to other items on CL, doesn't mean you have to pay them what they want.

Utlimately, "it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it"....regardless of KBB or NADA. If it's worth it to you....that's all that matters.

Exactly. This is why I paid over KBB for my '01 4Runner. The fresh lift and supercharger added the value to the base price IMO. It had a few maintenance issues I had to work out but for the price I have been happy with my purchase.

i just bought my 4runner around 3 months ago in san antonio tx for $5,000, its not a limited and has about 10,000 more miles but it has a lift, new a/t tires, no rust or leaks and everything works fine! i think that price is high, but it is a nice looking 4runner!

loos nice
here in Oregon our prices are sometimes higher, bet that would go for about 9 up here, recently saw one at a dealer, similar to yours and they were asking nearly 12

the rip in the drivers seat seems to be a common one, mines got it, same place

Not suprised. As for the seat tear, getting a new seat out of a scrap 4runner won't be hard

While this all makes sense, you also have to consider comparable autos. If EVERYONE is asking above market value (which they are in Texas) then you have no choice. If you don't buy it someone else will and pretty quickly.

Just like the housing situation here... people are offering to buy houses $20-$50k over market value for houses that ARENT EVEN ON THE MARKET. They're knocking on doors wanting these places. It's all supply and demand my friend. That's why subarus are so overpriced here... we aren't littered with them like northern markets

I completely get what you're saying...unfortunately, it comes across as justification for why one overpays for something. Don't even get me started on the MBS and housing market fiascos, LOL.

Counterpoint:
While you know what they are asking, you don't know what is being paid. Just b/c someone is asking X on CL...doesn't mean they are getting it.

That's true. I mean with private party there's no real way to know. I see them on Craigslist for 75% over KBB all the time and it's stupid. I have talked to numerous of them saying that's way too much and there's no way they'll get that whatever whatever then they tell me a few weeks later they got asking price. Could be full of junk or could be true. Who knows.

Hard to say....I wouldn't be surprised if they are getting asking or close to it...but I can't say for sure. Unfortunately, a lot of human nature tends to hide our losses....so it's hard to say if those folks are being completely honest about how they did. Me, I SUCK at negotiation...though I've gotten a little better in recent years. I tend to overpay for a lot of things and fool myself into thinking I got a good deal if I searched the internet looking for the lowest price and then waiting for a 10% off coupon or searching for a coupon code, LOL....at least I'm not paying full retail, is my justification.

Regardless, you can't save people from themselves. And I'm not looking down my nose at anyone for buying what they want, merely identifying the underlying problem with inflated prices...and that's the consumer's willingness to pay it coupled with low interest rates and fast and loose credit lending (though in the case of older used cars, that doesn't come into play).

I'm no one to talk anyway....I paid $32K for our 4Runner when we bought it new. Talk about overpaying, LOL. :) I will say it's been one of, if not the most reliable vehicles we've ever owned.

We all spend money on frivolous stuff....1st world problems, right? ;) Regardless, it's none of my business how anyone spends their money...as long as they are happy with the purchase, that's all that matters.
