Let us know how install goes - how nice they are. See if they hold up the gate with the window down. I am in the market for sure for both 4gunners.

Edit: N/M, lots of good reviews on 4runners even in cold on the strongarm 4286 and $28 shipped for a pair is an excellent price. Few cents cheaper even than ebay.

Updates on the lift struts?

Looking to replace mine again, the Strongarms are letting me down. Any updates on the other brands?

I'm seeing an Ezzy brand, with a lot of crap reviews.
 
The Strongarms get great reviews but started getting weak the 1st cold days and now I'm noticing they have slowed in 60 degree temps.

Did this early this year. He said he had a pair of 3rd gen struts laying around and would rebuild and send them, then I could mail my cores back. Alternative would have been removing mine sending in which I feel he may have turned the job around quicker.

Be sure to ask for a new pair of plastic top bearings! At least one of yours is probably splitting like mine were.

They lift the rear door like gangbusters now. Even with rear window down, even at 10 deg F. Very strong but not overdone.

2 KYB 4Runner strut rebuild was $98.00 + shipping, and then my shipping cost for core return (BC, Canada).

Thanks for this. I lost the last link to a similar service. I tried aftermarket and they were as bad as my 16 year old OEM struts. Since I've got the OEM's off I can ship them to him.
 
I got rid of my old OEMs, so I'm looking for another aftermarket brand that will last longer and perform better than the Strongarms.
 
Don't get the ones I ordered. Worked great in the summer but once it got to 70 degrees they barely open half way and won't stay up even if I push them
manually. I guess I should have known.

Might try strongarms.
 
Is there anyone in the US that does that rebuild? I suppose shipping to canada and back isn't too much worse than domestic really, but it would be nice if there was a US guy somewhere.

I just got strongarms myself, specifically the version with extra charge for cold climates (I'm in NJ).

They throw the hatch up right to the top pretty well, and are actually a bit difficult to close all the way since I don't happen to weigh very much. But they are 2 days old. I have not seen anyone say they lasted 10 years.

So I still have my originals and am pretty interested in this rebuild idea. But just try to google for that...
 
I have had the strongarms in since late march after that post. All warm weather use but in both gunners, they are STRONG. Lift the hatch with ease and with enough pressure my wife has a hard time closing hers. Will see how they do this winter.
 
So it looks like 3 choices, OEM, Rebuild, or Strongarms

Any insight over how much better the "cold weather" one is? The website doesn't give the pressure readings. I have about 3-4 extra lbs. on my liftgate so my aftermarket ones are struggling already, only been a year and a half. They weren't great from day 1 though.

$50 is a whole lot cheaper than $90+int'l shipping.
 
I would like to rebuild my OEMs. Surely there is someone in the U.S. that rebuilds them? Frank's prices + the shipping to Canada is pretty steep.

Just to reiterate, these things were $24 each and I do NOT expect them to last.

I'm only saying they do pop the hatch all the way up pretty strong *today* when they are only days old still.

I'm hanging on to my originals, and looking for a US based rebuilder, or if I never find one then I'll send them to the guy Canada if and when these cheapies lose their oomph.
