Found the DETAILED 4runner crash test results

Sorry if this is a repost, I searched and didn't find this:


I've always wondered why the passenger side crash test results were typically less than for the driver, so I started digging and found the insanely detailed results of the NHTSA crash test as a 100+page pdf file. I had no idea these guys were as good as they really are. In a nutshell, the passenger is typically designated as a teeny tiny female of about 5ft tall and 85lbs, and then the seat is pushed forward to its forwardmost position. Naturally it will not do as well as a standard sized adult male with the seat at the 50% position.

I have only ever seen the videos to this on youtube. Just scanning through it quickly as there is a sugar ton of information... it seems they used a rigid LED for lighting up the interior.

Very interesting testing data. One question that popped into my mind in reviewing the pictures was, why did the NHTSA not properly adjust the passenger seat headrest for the smaller test dummy in that position? The pictures show that the dummy's head hit likely the support posts of the raised headrest. I wonder if there is other test data showing the differences between properly adjusted versus not properly adjusted restraint devices?

In image 12 and 14 half way down the report, you can see the rear quarter panel buckled on the pass side. That seam a little odd to me, that much energy made it to the back, or the body is that weak.

As far as the head rest position goes, it is based on the average adult height in the country of testing. But would the dummy's not be the same?
