It is actually just a remote; as in to function from a distance, remotely.

There is a sticky that explains the programming. Shouldn't be too difficult. And as you've probably read they are available with and without a window button.

Mine came with the vehicle but I understand there is more than one frequency / type and you need to research which is correct for your setup. Hope this helps.

Wow, all this time on the forum and I never really noticed that sticky. And right there it is. Ill do some research. Thanks for the info
 
Is there a way to tell from the main unit which fob one needs? I just got the truck, and thanks to this thread now realize I've got this system installed... but no key fob to go with.

FWIW, it's a '97 SR5, but who knows when the system was installed.
 
I spent the last week in Louisania helping with hurricane recovery and didn't know this thread was still active.

I originally found it on ih8mud but couldn't find it today. Google the PDF and you should still be able to find it.

It's "Obsolete"; But that doesn't mean its incorrect.

Are you sure the battery in the remote isn't dying? When the battery in mine started to go I experienced the same problem.
