Frame Paint?

Anyone have a good recommendation for aerosol frame paint that looks OEM?
With as much cutting and welding as I'm doing, I'll be painting the majority of my frame, so I might as well make it look factory.

I've been using Rustoleum Flat and Semi-gloss; the flat is too flat, the semi-gloss is too glossy.

Suggestions?

Comes in gloss black or satin black.

thanks - matching OEM is what I'm after. Does this work as a top coat?

I can chime in on the rust reformer as well. I have used it as a cheap top coat on my 3rd gen frame with success. It's a tough finish and, like [MENTION=85040]99problems[/MENTION] said, it's real close to OEM frame finish. Rustoleum says it's "top coat optional" ... I never have. So far so good-- it has held up very well, even in the rough WI winter months.

Rust reformer is flat from what I can recall. OEM is more satin. Go walk past a Toyota dealer and look at any new truck frame.

He's not trying to match "any new truck" he's trying to match his 3rd gen. 20 years will make a big difference in how it looks. lol

This is the product we used in the body shop for the last oh, I don't know, 40 years or so. Not cheap at all though. I paid $20 for the last can I bought personally.

I use cold galv paint on the welds and rust then after a couple of days brush on rustoleum black performance paint .

the reason I did this was because I did the test and it works ... I painted a rusted piece of metal left out in the sun and rain this stuff works. I also use it on my steel patio furniture..

I used the cold galv paint on the exhaust pipe welds this holds up was surprised the the paint held up to the heat but allow a day for this to dry before running the engine..

I did this test on my 2000 GM truck I sprayed the exhaust manifold just to see if it would work well most of the paint held up ..just did a light wire brush job ..

your concern is the Paint gloss ! that IMO is very ODD....LOL..

I'm quirky.

I'd rather not "see" my work, so to speak - by multiple sheens on the frame from one area to the next..

You used Trim Black on the frame? Doesn't it have texture when applied?

You can also look into Eastwood Chassis Black. This and SEM are definitely better products, but I'm not sure if you'll really notice much difference over a few coats of satin black Rustoleum. Definitely a lighter wallet. They would be more effective in a frame off resto.

today I did my oil change and all the maint and tire rotations .. the rust fix I did last dec 2017 is perfect .. also the frame paint new does get dull .. so if you put on semi gloss it will have a flat finish in a few months.

your area probably not a major rust issue but up where I live it is the issue ..

the cold galv on the exhaust pipes at the welds look great when I did it dec 2017 ..

No it is not textured if you spray it correctly.
