Frame Paint?

Same - I hesitate to cover with anything thick b/c I want to see the trouble areas.

I'll likely drill a 1/2" drain hole in front of the LCA brackets too.

I think I'm just talking out loud. I feel my approach may not align with Corroseal since I will have shiny metal, and not uniform "clean, tight, rust" unless I spray with water after cleaning and let it flash rust... Was looking for someone to say, "just do it, it will be fine".

Perhaps if I get my problem areas down to 75% clean shiny metal and 25% clean shiny metal with some pitting, I would be better off with Ospho + paint topcoat. :pray2:

It seems like you haven't done any of the prep work on the frame yet. If that's the case and it was my vehicle I would just descale the loose stuff and use corroseal rather than spend the extra prep time getting all the rust off to use a different paint. Just my two pennies on the subject. I'd like to think of myself as productively lazy lol

You aren't wrong and I don't want to go down the completely slippery slope of attempting to make it perfect.

This is a new to me truck and I'm in the process of a complete maintenance effort: suspension refresh, hose replacement, fluid replacement, brakes and frame revitalization. Once it's back on the road I'll turn to the engine - timing belt, hoses, etc. etc. yada yada.

I've currently descaled 40% of the problem areas and cut out the two parts that needed cutting out. Still need to thoroughly clean out the inside of the frame and decide what to do.

I don't like the look of pock marked metal but unless I reframe it, I will have to get over it in some places.

So, perhaps corroseal is indeed the best answer. Thing is, not all of the frame is to be scrubbed, I have plenty that still has original paint on it. Guess I can corroseal the places I clean up, and then scuff the existing paint for adhesion.

Trying not to make this any more difficult than it is... !

I followed exact same path when bought my 02 with 180k miles couple years back.
Replaced all fluids, went through suspension & steering updating & replacing many parts. Next up was the frame as described above.
Once that was done changed out valve cover gaskets, full tune up, cooling system upgrade w/added trans cooler……yada, yada, yada.
Love working on these 3rd gen trucks as so much still available OEM, fairly easy to wrench and a great forum to consult with and share ideas.

I think you would be fine overlapping the corroseal onto the still painted sections of frame as long as you scuff if up, then scuff up all of it and paint with the rustoleum to blend it all together. Most people never look at a frame besides making sure it's still there lol

Same - mine is a 2002 4WD Sport w/ 167k. I fell in love once I realized I could remove the entire interior in under 10min.

I'll make the full circle on it over time. The first is frame + suspension however....

Good call on that. This will likely be my approach.

Same here, 4WD Sport in Thunder Cloud.
Always thought I preferred the cleaner front end of the 96-98 until I discovered the Sport Edition.
Still have a soft spot for a 98 in Desert Dune….one day!

Black with gray cloth for mine. I'm on the lookout for a 5speed '99 in that metallic light blue, but I won't hold my breath :-)

Don’t forget the Stellar Blue Pearl available on the 02 Sport Edition, thanks a hard to come by combo right there.
