Frame rust?

just a heads up on the eastwood or por-15.... these coatings are designed to be applied over bare or rusted metal. applying them over existing factory paint/coatings will not get the best results, yes it will stick for awhile but it's only as strong as the coating underneath, it will come off as soon as the factory coating starts to let go, or even sooner, ive seen por15 start to flake & peel on previously painted surfaces after a year or 2.

so if possible, its best to apply these products on bare or rusted metal only, then use another type of paint for the scuffed & cleaned areas that still retain the factory coating. you can paint over por15 if done while its still tacky or after fully cured & its been scuffed up. i have used rustoleum brand paint over por15 & it has lasted for 10 years on another car i restored. also keep in mind por15 is not UV resistant, even on frames it will start to get a greyish look after a couple years due to sunlight reflecting off the ground, so a top coat is needed to keep it looking good.

That’s the plan I was thinking of getting rid of the paint that’s on it and removing as much of the rust as possible then paint it followed by cosmoline which seems pretty good

Just spent the last 2 days about 8 hrs. Brushing entire frame and all components with a wire brush. Then repainted everything with rustoleum. I am gonna keep an eye on it to make sure it stays looking good.

Those pics are similar to mine. The only soft spot I've found is where the rear axle arm attaches to the ears on the frame. I welded in some new metal there. I need to scrape mine too and vac/wash out all the sand inside the frame, then I'll oil it inside and out. Most things I've read make it seem like oiling it yearly gives the best results. One guy on youtube uses ATF I think.

I haven't found any thick wafering that would end up being a big hole. At lest not on the frame, the skid plates and tank cover were toast.

Yeah after doing some research Eastwood’s internal frame coating seems to work the best for the inside anyway

Hey guys it's been awhile. so for the past few weeks I've finally got around to working on the frame and to my surprise it's actually in really good shape, really nice solid metal under all the rust mostly all on the rear end of the frame as seen in the pics I posted before, for some reason its worse on the drivers side with pitting in the metal but other then that no weak spots which I am really happy about, I'm going to post some pictures tomorrow of the results of the Eastwood rust Encapsulator platinum

(edit) here's the picture of the passenger side of the frame I will post more pics when the entire frame is done
