So if you could get any of the 2010 4runners brand new completely free, which one would you get? Or, which one are you planning on getting and WHY if you don't mind. For me, Trail Edition with KDSS all the way!

If it were free, I'd certainly take a Limited. I have a strong feeling that I'd be trading it in when the mid-generation refresh happens in 3-4 years. As has been posted in other threads, Toyota seemed to go "backwards" with a lot of little details, so I'd be happier when they bring some back. I won't spend any of my money on one before then.

i really like and agre with that answer, but i would take the engine and Manual transmission out of the Hilux and put it in the Salsa Red limited and trade the body kit out with a trail edition.

TE with KDSS. No doubt. The only thing that i would anguish over is whether to get the NAVI JBL or not. I love a good sound system, but i already have a nice Garmin NUVI. I can live with a part-time 4wd system, esp. where i am living (TX). I am sadden that Toyota did not have an option for a shotgun rack.

I don't buy new vehicles anymore but I hope to acquire a 2010 or 2011 TE in a few years after my 3rd gen 4runner wears out.
My only concern is that the TEs will be a minority and most of the vehicles on the used market will be SR5s. I'm hoping they at least offer the option of a locker in the SR5s. I also wouldn't mind if they started offering the multi-mode 4wd in the SR5 and TE models but if I had to choose between full time 4wd with the torsen center diff and part time 4wd I'd choose the part time setup.

The Trail Edition for sure. You can keep the 20" wheels on the Limited.:nono:
For free? No doubt the Ltd. Except I would trade it in immediately for a solid, used 4th gen, and then pocket the difference.
I can swap out the 20" wheels on the Limited (which I would do the first day I had it). It is a lot harder to add a Torsen center diff to the TE.

For what I do with it, I wouldn't need to add any of that. I take my 2003 Limited on the beach as is, and it does just fine. Crawl control? Unnecessary, even if you are into rock hopping. Rear locker? Sure, useful for rock hopping. KDSS? Sure, useful. But I don't need it.But then you need to also add a rear locker, CRAWL, and KDSS hard/software. HERE is what I don't understand. Toyota THINKS that the Trail edition will be the LEAST POPULAR of the 4runners and therefore is making so few of them that they will be difficult to find. Where did toyota get this idea??? Based on what I'm seeing from everybody's opinions, the Trail Edition will be the most popular BY FAR, with roughly HALF of the to-purchase population wanting one. Can someone enlighten me?

The TE is most popular with 4runner enthusiasts, but I don't think it will be the most popular with then general public.
The folks here are simply not representative of the average buyer. The folks on this site are enthusiasts.
The vast majority of 4Runner buyers never take their trucks offroad. They'll do fine with an SR5 or Limited.
