Recent photo shoot I did for the local 4WheelParts shop here. They're doing a delivery truck vinyl wrap using photos from these 3rd gen Tacomas. I found a nice dirt pile to flex my suspension on and wanted to see how much clearance I have now since the BL installed. No rubbing at all

Plasti-dipped my fender flares

1st time ever Plasti-dip or in this case, Dupli-dip. I put 6-7 coats on each one but made the mistake of pealing the tape when completely dry so it peeled harsh in a couple spots so I'll be redoing when I have some time. But overall I love the black flares vs non. I think it helps break up the color a bit and goes well with the other black TE accents. I'm going to do the grill, bumper valences, and roof rack rails next

SCS SR8 Wheels & Nitto Ridge Grapplers installed

Swapped my current wheels/tires out for SCS SR8 17x8.5 Wheels & 285/75R17C Nitto Ridge Grapplers installed today. I usually do this about once a year or so as I grow tired of seeing the same old, same old. Luckily the 4R itself hasn't done that yet as I cycle vehicles every 1-3 years as well. Little bit truck ADD I guess

Thanks! Honestly after doing the 1" body lift, I wanted to fill the wheel wells a bit more and the "E" rated Mickeys were a bit too stiff and loud on pavement for me. These Nittos are almost 34" tall by 11.5" wide and "C" rated. I had the ProComp wheels for over a year and was ready for something similar in color but different in design. The SCS wheels fit that and have got to be the lightest aftermarket wheel available.

Have you run into any issues with the travel on the suspension lift + body lift + KDSS? Everything I've read here and in TTORA kind of points to a 3" lift being the reasonable upper limit, though, I think that's strictly looking at a suspension lift. I haven't seen a ton of guys do a body lift also with the KDSS (TheWraith tried one with his but ran into problems past a certain height).

One thing I might have missed.... did you do a gear swap? For the 34's I'd expect that to be something you'd be kicking around at least.

Thanks! No problems with the combination suspension/body lift with KDSS. The lift has been installed over a year now and BL about 2 months. 'TheWraith' had a 2" BL and had problems with the radiator fan shroud as well as the steering shaft because no one makes the 2" extension for 5th gen. He also had too much space between the rear bumper cover and actual bumper because he didn't glue an extra 2" piece of styrofoam in there. I remember reading he slipped off the bumper because it flexed too much without it. Thankfully the 1" BL doesn't require or hinder any of that.

As for gearing, some guys re-gear with 33s but I wouldn't unless I went to 35s but never will in this 4R. I honestly haven't noticed any power loss yet with the 34s. These Nittos are 33.8 x 11.5 so not that much taller than my previous tires

Finally had a chance to soft sand test my new 34" Ridge Grapplers. They did very well, especially since they're at 34 psi. I would have air downed if I was planning on all day but just went for a couple hours with my son so "he" could play with his Axial RC Crawlers. :wof: Also stumbled upon a clueless tourist that apparently thought their rental Mustang was a 4x4. That took a solid 30+ minutes of digging the entire car out as they were to the frame front to back. We couldn't access their tow hook, which btw they don't have in the rear just in case you guys are ever in this situation as reversing them out was the only option. lol

Yeah bro I definitely was having Tacoma envy on that shoot but those two are strictly mall crawlers with hideous 22" wheels. I don't mind drop-bracket lifts as long as they're built with off-roading in mind. Plus the Tacoma to me is half the build quality and comfort of the 4R.

Evidently It's been in effect since 2006 when they barricaded Mokuleia off after a camper sleeping on the beach at night was ran over and killed. You'll only get a ticket when a cop sees you driving (or you get reported like in my case). I usually go all along the beach by Sandy's and haven't been busted before but have definitely heard of guys getting tickets there, even just parked in the sand. Super lame

I enjoy seeing those photos from Electric beach and Makaha! We moved away from Hawaii a little over a year ago and miss it everyday! I laughed at the mustang, I saw tourists get themselves into similar situations all the time. Mahalo for all the photos and bringing back some awesome memories!

I just noticed your thread. I could've used your help a few weeks ago when I installed the lift on my '16 Trail with KDSS. It kicked my butt!!!

Installed 295/70R17 Mickey Thompson MTZP3

Recently installed Mickey Thompson 295/70R17 MTZP3 on SCS SR8 Wheels. Really stoked to say the least. My favorite tire size now as I have ADD when it comes to wheels/tires. Started with stock then lifted my 4R with 285/70 KM2 to 305/65 Deegan 38 to 285/75 Nitto Ridge Grapplers to now these 295/70. I'm officially done with changing tires out Thankfully I have a dealer account with 4WheelParts so tires are basically swapped out as I resell them for cost.
