In cold weather pour over isn't ideal because by the time the water fully drains through the filter it has lost a lot of heat. I rely on basically two methods, Starbucks instant packs using a kettle to get the water really hot or if I'm willing to put in the effort is an old school stove top percolator coffee pot. Just don't over cook it and it tastes great and is also really hot.

I will second on what Fourrunnererbill said. A percolator is the way to go in cold weather but not always the most convenient for one or two people but great for a group. Besides that some great gear and advice in here. Many Thanks!

But coffee for a group is a whole other thing.

I'm a Moka pot guy myself. Works great for cold weather coffee and brews a great cup of coffee every time. And for those of you that camp at altitude the Moka pot helps with the lower boiling point at high altitudes. It's hard to get a hot cup of coffee at 11,000 feet. (Water boils at 192 degrees at 11,000 feet. Far below the ideal extraction temperature for coffee.) Also available in multiple sizes! Get a stainless steel model ideally.


Yeah I know you pour over and press guys and girls don't like percolator or drip coffee but for camping it's a bullet proof good cup of coffee.

Jetboil

I’ve tried various methods. Jetboil gets the water hot very fast and retains the heat due to the cloth sleeve. Also use their French press kit so the coffee stays hot during the brew. Jetboil isn’t cheap but if you’re a REI member wait for the 20 or 30% coupons and use your member points and it’s not a bad deal.

I go full nerd. Jetboil too, store beans in a Fellow Atmos Vacuum Canister, grind them with a Hario Ceramic Coffee Mill, brew with either a GSI french press, a Wacaco NanoPresso, or a PipaMoka.

I really like the Aeropress but the PipaMoka cartridge/system is a "little bit" easier to clean (and no need for filters), literally no water, you tap the grinds from the cartridge let it dry for a minute then brush out the rest. The Nanopresso is pretty similar, knock the grinds out of the portafilter and brush it when dry.

I of course live near and camp in a desert, high desert and more arid mountain regions so water and mess is always a concern.
