It seems to me the IPOD and GPS are redundant. Couldn't all that be handled by the laptop which would clean-up the cabin? A simple bluetooth GPS antenna, some GPS mapping software and plumb the music into the aux jack by installing a second input.

Then the IPOD and GPS could be 'stored' elsewhere for when the laptop decides to blue screen on you.

Well first of all it's a Apple so a blue screen is not applicable hahha!!!

I understand what your saying but it's not a option at all because it's a 160 gig iPod connected to my stereo and much easier to find music on a iPod than a computer while driving, second when I have my computer in my truck I have it on my work database and also gps software for computers suck IMO, and a actual gps is much faster since I'm going to anywhere from 30-50 properties a day

Ahh... Apple, cool.

Someone did a nice GPS mount by popping the grille off of the center speaker, attching the mount and snaking the GPS wire through a slightly modified speaker hole/grille. Then the IPOD could get over where the GPS is currently located. That would allow for right-handed GPS programming and passenger access.

Your current setup is pretty sweet though, I don't know that there's a lot of room for improvement.

I saw that setup and it was done very nicely!! But being that I live in California I couldn't do that, we have a new law in effect tomorrow that the gps can only be in the lower left or lower right of the windshield and I actually like that location cause it doesn't block your view

I am so glad your lawmakers spend time and energy on GPS. We all know that there are no more pressing issues for the residents of CA. :bash:







Ok, we've pretty much decided your setup about as nicely as you can be. One last thought: IPOD cable into the almost useless compartment in front of the shifter. Once the IPOD is cranked off you could stuff the couple of inches of cable and the IPOD back into the compartment. The only use I have found for that compartment is to hold my :girl: 's emory board for her nails and a spare hair clip:lmao:

oh and there is another law, no text messaging while driving, which means if you have your phone in your hand they can give you a ticket!!!

ahh thats a good idea but maybe i shouldnt put it in that compartment cause then my girlfriend will grab my ipod then get some ideas about storing her gear in there hahha

Mine is an '07, it came with the Aux output in the center console, but I don't have the stock HU, was not enough outputs for the goodies but I use that hole for the Aux cable anyway. I have the subwoofer's remote next to it, for that We needed to drill. Don't keep much else in it. But the useless little compartment next to the swifter would be good too.

yeah those are for the lights, but i think im gonna redo them once i get my schrockworks bumper cause ill have the piaa 510 that replace the foglights for the bumper then ill have all these light switches ill need to organize

You can easily hide the GPS power cable down the drivers side trim. It will easily tuck under the rubber strip and lead down to the kick panel. As other said with the ipod I would put the cord in the middle console. There is enough room that it fits through while closed and then you can easily hide it there.

I really don't understand why people put high lift jacks on the exterior of the vehicle. They are going to get killed by the elements, so when you actually need them, they'll be jammed by rust. I take one with me offroading, but I have the case for it and store it inside. I removed the rear seat bottom cushions, then fold down the seat backs to create a nice trough in the back that is great for storing gear. I keep a CO2 tank as well as a high lift jack back there, and they are held captive so they can't go anywhere.

well for someone that may not need the highlift jack on a regular basis i can totally understand keeping it stored, but i on the other hand may need and use my high lift several times throughout a given work week, and the space inside my truck in very valuable and limited with all the other tools i need so thats why i have it up on the roof and also why i have a axe and shovel up there too, yes i use them when i offroad but i still may need them during my work week

Best buy can hard wire your GPS for $20 i think. I know you said something about not wanting to but if you do decide and don't want to hassle with it, they'll do it for inexpensive.

yea, very nice! i 2nd the sliders, saw an 07 with rockrails- super sliders- ( from rockyroad outfitters) that looked pretty good. maybe a couple more black accents on body & wheels.
