Frnt Diff Woes...

Hey, how bout some thoughts here guys.
I swapped the cv' s out on my truck and I was trying to throw in a bit of diff oil. Long story short I stripped the piss out of the drain plug. F***** Allen keys..
A shop that I took it by said that I would need to drill it out. Wtf

Here's my thought on this, I thought that I might get a socket and weld it to the drain plug. That way I would be able to stick a wrench on it and get it out.

This. I would weld something to the plug before attempting to drill it out any day of the week. Good thinking, and definitely try this first.

hit it hard with a hammer a few times first, should loosen it up and crack where its ceased. but great idea, that allen key drain plug is one of the worst ideas toyota had, mine got ceased as well but luckily i was just replacing the whole diff. Dont forget to coat the new drain plug with anti cease, thats what i did

Alternatively, assuming you have your fill plug out you can throw a pump in there and suck out the old oil. You would probably be able to get most of it out, but of course this isn't as good as fully draining it first.

When welding just do spots and pull it out quickly. We at work often just weld another nut/bolt to the head of it and use an end wrench or socket
