So this will be my first trip out there to extract the sibling sis from her lower mountain hideout near the green mile in Denver. I am using REI's
www.hikingproject.com trail mapping system to find decent routes, and a 14ers book I picked up from the net months ago.
As of now I will have a week round trip so from my lowley 500' elevation life I will spend have to spend day one acclimatizing at 5200ish el's before bounding up to the 10's on day two... all that said I had an outlandish dream to hit 10 in 5-6 days but I am winnowing the list down to 6ish (ish because when I do the DeCaLiBron loop I will not "officially" summit all four in one day for two reasons, first I won't drop far enough between each to qualify by the true Colorado rules and second Mt. Bross is privately owned so of course I will not be trespassing... though I might get lost for a little while)
There is a 10 mile trek that will collect both Evans and Bierstadt, close enough to Denver to make that a day trip up and down which may be my first pair.
Grays and Torreys Peaks is another 8.3 mi pair that seems attainable and of course how can one NOT bag Elbert in a day to claim the top of Colorado... though I am considering saving that for #53 some day in the distant future, which means Massive is/could be back on the list for this trip haha.
Who knows though, I
think I am conditioned enough so I will try. If you don't set your goals high enough you just end up hanging out in the valley.
