From your experiences which do you prefer Flowmaster or MagnaFlow?

I don’t want to end up with the bad muffler. Considering my 4runner will be and is my DD. Everyone knows how California is when it comes to the legality of motor vehicles. On a side note I checked Holley which I’m guessing is the people that primarily sell Flowmasters don’t have a super 44 or something that will fit a 2001 4runner. Also how would i know if i’m getting the right one cause every muffler is different. Do i need to look under my vehicle?

I've had 2 bad experiences with Flowmasters and will not run another one. In both cases, one of the baffles inside came loose and made the vehicle sound like a a swarm of pissed off metallic bees. Changed both out to a manaflow/glass packed muffler and haven't had any issues.

Are you planning to weld it in yourself? If not, stop by a muffler shop where you can get some info - most sell and install both MF and Flowmaster. If you are fully DIY, yes, make note of your current muffler's inlet and outlet sides are and have at it. A muffler is something you can experiment with without breaking the bank....

I'm a fan of Borla exhausts. They make universal mufflers.

I have absolutely zero regrets about running the Magnaflow Overland setup. The kit comes with pipes to fit the single cat or dual cat Cali emissions trucks. With the J tube and resonator on it, the sound is fine for every day driving.

From memory, if the exhaust is stock the fitment you want is the 2.5" center/offset muffler. Glasspacks (straight-through) mufflers are reversable so you'll want the center pipe on the upstream pipe and the offset pipe on the downstream pipe.

Just ask the shop to recommend some #LoudAF options, do some research on them online and then return and get the muffler of your choice if they carry a model that you like. Any urban shop is going to have #BarelyLegal options available because that's what the kids want - for better or worse.
