Front axle...

After doing some maintance and some checks on my truck today I found this.

I have had some minnor noises from the front end but it was when wheels were straight not turned and the noise has been intermitent. Is this the cause for my noise ?

My next question is how much time do i have to change this thing before I screw something else up.

BTW I recently installed a 1.5" lift...

pretty common after lifts.. cv boots are more likely to get torn and from the looks of the grease all over, that is what happened. You probably have a little time. If it's making noises then something might be broke, and if thats the case I would change it soon.

CV axles literally take 30-45 min.. getting the dust cap off for the first time takes some time and prying.

Probably not the cause of any noise you hear. You can leave it for awhile, it cant really harm anything but the cv itself. Just go get a new one and pop it in

I drove on it for 3 weeks and it held up, In the mean time I ordered at johnny joint from www.currieenterprises.com and Installed that recently with a welded bung, the joint I ordered was alittle big but I got to to work . Spent about 55$ on the newer rod.


Back to the axle, I was going to try to repair the boot. But after looking at prices of a reman axle I just decided it was worth it.

I got a reman axle, a new lower ball joint and a shaft seal for $75 shipped to my door from advance auto online store .
