Front brake problem

91 4runner- My front brake rotors are badly warped, is this a common problem? How hard are they to take off and do you need any special tools?
Thanks for the advise in advance.

i dont think they should be worped at all. its not a hard thing to replace them. i did it to my 87 in the back yard, shouldne be a big deal

Thanks for the advise, the rotors are warped, you hit the brakes and you can feel the front end shaking badly.

I just went through this pain myself.

In the 2nd Gens, this is not quite so easy....a rebuild of the front hub is worth while doing at the same time since you have to tear it apart anyways. New inner/outer bearings, seals, and associated hardware would be my recommendation. An axle seal puller/removal tool makes life WAY easier ($9 at the local parts store) in this job as well.

Separating the hub housing from the rotor hurts the ears! 6 (or 8 -- can't remember) bolts that hold them together....but it's a tapered fit. Plan on BFH'n to separate the 2. :)

4x4wire.com's Toyota section has a pretty good writeup on the hub rebuild...

Have fun!
