Front camera for aftermarket grille

I've been trying to find a place to mount a front camera on my 4runner, mainly for cresting hills when I'm offroading. Normally I have to park, get out, and check for rocks and holes that I can't see from the drivers seat. I was thinking about mounting it to the bottom of the bumper or the edge of the skid plate, but that seems too vulnerable. I like the look of the cameras on ebay that fit into the Toyota logo in the stock grille, but I've got one of the aftermarket grilles that looks like the Tacoma TRD grille. So, I designed a 3d-printed adapter for a cheap ebay backup camera that fits into the "O" in the TOYOTA logo on my aftermarket grille:

I'm almost done designing a backplate to hold the camera in place, but I have a little problem... I'm thinking about removing the TOYOTA logo entirely and putting a 14" light bar there, using a 3d printed bracket. Not sure where the camera would go after that.

I'm planning on uploading the CAD files somewhere in a few days, so anyone can print their own if they want.

All of the aftermarket backup cameras I've seen let you mirror/invert the video by cutting a wire next to the camera, this one is no different.

Edit: Here's a screenshot of the ebay listing (since a link will eventually expire)... It's just a generic backup camera.

I tried to send a private message but not sure if it went through. Its been a while since I've been on here.

I was wondering, if you have an extra bracket you'd be willing to sell.

Is your grille from trail runner customs or somewhere else?

How was the viewing angle for the camera when installed?

I got your message but I'll reply here. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I'm not on here very often either.

I got my grille on aliexpress, but I think it's identical to the one that trail runner customer sells, and I also see it on ebay.

I'm not sure about viewing angle because I never finished wiring up the camera - instead I started working on a new project to embed a light bar in the grille where the TOYOTA logo is. I made a rough prototype for the light bar mount, but nothing strong enough for real world use. Then I moved, and haven't worked on it since.

The camera you linked to in your PM looks like the same one I'm using.

I'll see if I can find some time to finish the camera mount and get the viewing angle lined up nicely. I'd be happy to sell you one if I can get around to finishing the design. I might put it on ebay, especially if other people are interested.

I really appreciate the response and would definitely be interested in the camera mount if you can get it figured out. Keep us posted

Love this idea. Makes me want to add one myself. I wonder how hard it would be to add one under the sideview mirrors similar to how newer vehicles have them now
