front D ring mounts

I've done some checking under my friend's 4th gen and 5th gen and unfortunately, they don't have the factory mounts like the 2nd and 3rd gens do. There really isn't a place to bolt them on the frame like our trucks. If I get a chance to spend more time under a 4th gen, I'll see what we can come up with. I don't know if it'll be as simple as what we have though.

Thanks for replying!

Ordered some Sunday. I messaged you yesterday trying to understand what shackles I need to order.

I was out of town until late last night, I just couldn't get you the info. The 3/4" shackle is the one to look for. Local farm/hardware shops will have it like Tractor Supply or even some hardware places like Grainger or Fastenall.

BTW, the brackets are being primed and painted now and should be in the mail tomorrow!

Sounds good thanks. Yeah I'm trying to order some d rings online but most don't specify won't pin size their 3/4 d rings have. You specified I need a 7/8 size pin.

That just allows you to get the large D-ring. I think it's the 4500lb ones in there. I'll check mine to confirm. But, a tractor supply should be able to have what you need. I think I ordered mine online, but that was years ago.

Has anyone tried to fit these on a 1st gen? Ive got an '85 and it has very similar (or the same) bolt pattern for factory tow hook on one side and tie-down on the other. Would love to buy a set if they would work.

I know they work for a 2nd Gen. A friend of mine has one and I fit them on his truck. If you'd like, remove the hook and send me the distance from each hole (center hole to center hole, or edge to edge) and I'll make sure to make you a set that will fit it if the originals won't.

From my search online, I believe it's the same dimensions. PM me and we can discuss.

This thread is really useful! I need to add some serious recovery points on my 2000 4Runner.

Which ones should I go for, the ones from Trackdecal.com or Sonoransteel.com ?

Any difference in durability / weight capacity?

I'm leaning toward Trackdecal since many here got stuff from them and the guy is a member of the forum.

EDIT: ordered passed for the Trackdecal ones :)

Tacoma shackle brackets up top and 4Runner brackets on the bottom. Notice the difference in overhang the Tacoma ones need to clear the bumper. When ordering, please comment on which you'd like please.
