Front diff oil seal help

I’m replacing my front diff oil seal and when I removed the drivers side CV axle, this spring was dangling in the opening of the diff. Anyone know what this is? Part of the bad oil seal?

Thanks everyone! New OEM oil seal is installed and so far no leaking. Seeing the spring dangling in the diff when I removed the axle was a bit of a curve ball. Huge thanks to Timmy the Toolmans YouTube tutorial on this repair which I watched several times to prepare.

Just an FYI: Never get rid of the OEM CV. Just reboot it. Aftermarket CV's are out of balance and ton of other failures.

Thanks for reaffirming my choices. This project all started when I was replacing my front shocks, while cutting out the frozen lower shock bolt on the drivers side I sliced the outer CV boot. The factory original CV’s were in perfect shape. After much research I decided to reboot just the one side and keep my stock axle. Followed Timmys super helpful CV reboot video. However, after successfully rebooting and reinstalling the axle I noticed a drip out of that same side of the diff. Luckily my local Toyota parts had one drivers side oils seal in stock. She’s all fixed up now, glad I salvaged my OEM axle.

Great to hear our video helped you out. Good job tackling the job yourself. You saved yourself a ton of money.
