Front diff question

I have tried to do some research on my own. Are the front differentials different on the 96-00 and 01-02 models? I am trying to swap my front diff from my 99 to my 01. I want to swap my e-lcoker setup over but my 99 is 4.30 ratio and the 01 is 4.10. I have read somewhere that the 96-00 uses vacuum lines and the 01-02 models don't.

The '01-'02 definitely use an electric actuator as opposed to the vacuum actuator used previously through 2000. I just have no idea if you could just swap the '99 diff and reuse the '01 actuator.

It MIGHT work. They do the exact same thing. The carrier housing is the same p/n from '96 to '02, so it should bolt up. The question is the engagement collar. I give it a good chance. Looking at AZPartsGuy 's link, I'm even more optimistic.

They both have 4 bolts. Maybe someone could chime in on this. Going to look into it.

Not to thread jack here (it's kind of related)... But, I've been wondering if front diffs are the same between 6cyl and 4cyl. Everything i search for comes up blank, so i assume they are the same. I would like to know for sure though.

Just swap the actuators. Takes like 10 minutes. I swapped the front diffs in my 01 taco "electric", with my 2000 Runner "vaccum".
