Front door latch replacement

Is there a good write up for a front door latch replacement?

I have an '02 that the door when closed, pushes back open and will not latch.

Outside handle is new and inside appears to actuate the rods.

Latch just no longer closes around the rod.

Just throwing this out there but are you sure it's the latch? It could be the hinge pin bushings are worn causing the door to sag and not engage the latch when closing. To test, open door grab the bottom and lift up, if you have play/wiggle it's most likely the bushings. Lift up on the door slightly as you close it and see if it closes normally. Older Full size GM Trucks are known for this, Rockauto sells a replacement hinge pin/bushing kit for T4R's similar to the GM replacements which I've used on my Silverado in the past, I had the same symptoms you are describing and could see signs of wear at the point the latch in the door met the striker from the door sagging slowly over time.

Test the latch by opening the door. Close the latch on the door with your finger, should be 2 clicks. Try to open the latch with your finger or screw driver WITHOUT pulling on the handle...if it doesn’t open the latch is fine. Then do the same thing and this time try to open latch using the handle. If it opens then it’s fine and you need to adjust the pin the latch closes onto, if it doesn’t open you need to adjust the linkage inside the door. My bet is it is the linkage inside the door due to the statement you made about it has a NEW door handle... somebody did not adjust it properly
