Front door lock only works 70% of the time

My front passenger door lock is acting up. It wont lock/unlock about 30% of the time and I have to unlock it manually. What's wrong? I feel like it should be an all or nothing issue and not a 70/30 thing.

explain lock unlock ....with key and driver side control or just key control.

does it effect just front passenger door or all the other doors ?

sounds like a crapped out door lock acuator they start by failing intermittently in my experience

I've had my front driver door lock actuator work intermittently for about 2 months, then it stopped working 100% of the time.

Door lock actuators have been a hot topic in the past. There are a few threads about them. Replacement actuators are expensive from Toyota but they can be rebuilt rather inexpensively as I remember. Do a search for more info and source for parts.

Yep. Sounds like the door lock actuators. Expensive to replace, but cheap to rebuild. If you are handy, it's very easy.

Take a look at this thread. The door locks are crap. I had to replace two of these motors at the same time. This thread has the motor you’ll need and has great step-by-step instructions.

2013 was a bad year for actuators. I've had 2/4 fail on mine. All off warranty.

If the weather gets better I might take everything apart and replace them.

definitely sounds like the actuator. Had this happen to my old lexus. As everyone said it's expensive to replace. A reputable local toyota/lexus mechanic can repair it for about $110....that was for my lexus. Hopefully it would be cheaper on a toyota.

Definitely gonna try the DIY posted above if and when the actuator on my T4R starts to crap out.
