Front door speakers

What size are the front lower door speaker on a 06 sport 4runner without jbl system? I look on crutchfield and they gave me a few different options from 6 1/2 and 6x9.

6x9 is the factory speaker size. Regardless of what size you go with, you will need to purchase or fabricate a speaker bracket to mount to the over sized opening in the door.

Are the non JBL sound systems really that basic? JBL systems come with the 6x9 adapter pieces. Might be worth it to get the plastic from a limited

OP you could always pop a door panel off and look.

On my '08 non-JBL the speakers are 6x9 and there was no adapter, instead the plastic the speaker is made out of was formed to fit the oversized space. There was no way to re-use any of the plastic from the speaker like I did on my 3rd gen, the 4th gen speaker was all one piece. I ended up using these Metra adapters for mine, although the speakers I got didn't line up with all the holes in the adapter so I had to make my own.

That's unfortunate. My limited has these four inch thick 6x9 spacers to pull them out from the door. Totally reusable. Maybe future users can source that part from a limited and then make a 3d printer file for them. I don't want to know what Toyota charges for them.

You're the first that I've ever heard having this. Any other install I've seen has been either a fabrication of brackets or gutting the OEM speaker to fit an aftermarket to the stock bracket.

I was going to post exactly that. I also have a limited, so not sure if I other models have the same. But yeah, it was 4 screws holding the speaker to the mount. New speakers fit in fine. Best part is, I connected the aftermarket speaker wires to the OEM frame and was able to just use the OEM clip, so no aftermarket wire adaptors either. I wasn’t able to do it to the rears, but I did pull out the rear speakers OEM wire harness as well so no aftermarket wire adaptors either for that.
