I removed the front diff on my 03 V6 this morning to have the ARB locker installed. I took off the four bolts and nuts holding the front driveshaft to differential but it didn't separate. I tapped it a few times with hammer and no go. So I continued to lower differ down towards garage floor. Finally it broke free, but where the gear enters what I am guessing is the expansion joint back by the TC (see pic). From the looks of it, I did no damage and can slide the driveshaft back into its receiving mate near the TC. There is no c-clip or anything else that connected the front part of the driveshaft to the rear, I am assuming that all is well and can reassemble but would like some confirmation. Thanks in advance for any insight.

It does need to be "clocked" correctly so that it doesn't vibrate. If you didn't mark it, look for anything that can determine the position of the two. If there are no marks, you can try to put it back together so the u-joints match and try it. If it does vibrate, remove and clock it 180* then re-try. If it still vibrates, you may have to take it to a driveline shop that can rebalance it. IIRC, the grease zerks are in line with each other on both my 4Runners, so I would try that first.

Always mark any spinning shaft before messing with it. You'll have a fun time trying to figure out its orientation. Luckily with the zerks there you'll only have two possible options.
