Front end clunk

Hey guys and gals,

Sorry ahead of time if this has been addressed, I couldn't find anything and thanks ahead of time, so I have a strange clunk coming from the front of my 2013 TE. Took it to the dealer and they could not find anything rubbing or hitting, but they also would only go so far since I am lifted. Nothing appears lose or broken. (3in OME) The noise is mostly heard when in a parking lot at slow speeds or even when parked. I've attached a video for reference.

Thoughts?

Just the other day I had my lifted 14' at the dealer for popping sounds. It would happen when I had the wheels cut hard right, especially backing up. I got under there and looked for rubbing several times. Then I just checked the cv axle and it had a lot of play. I jacked up the right side and tried to free spin the tire, and it had a lot of resistance and a pop. Dealer looked at it and are replacing the axle under warranty. Hope this may help, good luck getting it sorted out.

I'd check the CVs, LCA cam-bolts (need to be 100 ftlb), tie rod ends, steering rack bushings and bolts.

Do you have the sway bay relocation brackets?

My lift came with them and some people forget to put them on and the Sway Bar hits the front coils when the coils are compressed (driven over bumps).

I bought the rig already lifted, and I have KDSS.(Not sure if that matters) I don't think its that because the noise is there when completely stopped and level. The video above is sitting still in a parking lot.

Try searching for "drive line clunk". Don't know much about it but some people have a clunk in their drive shaft/slip joint on older Runners(03-09). Don't know if it's an issue on the newer models like yours. Worth a look as its easily fixed by greasing the drive shaft/joints via pre installed grease zerks

^This, had the exact same noise and symptoms on my lifted FJ. Check the CV axle play

Thanks for the info! Definitely have to look into the CVs, this noise is driving me up a wall!

Same noise

I have the same noise: sounds like front Left. Did a search and came up with a few possibilities. I have a 2011 with aftermarket lift

Check your swaybar endlinks. Had one go bad and it made a similar noise.

I know this is a year or two year old thread but did you find a resolution to your problem? I too am having the same thing and it's driving me nuts in my 15' TEP w/ KDSS. Thanks!

Same problem here.

I am have kinda the same issue. If I go over a speed bump or drive into our driveway over the side walk I get a clunk in the front left. Sounds like a worn shock bushing to me. I went under either and pulled hard on everything and everything feels tight.

Any thoughts ?

Having the same issue with my 2010 limited with icon Stage 6 with Overland springs. On the driver side, the lower shock body can rotate in the joint. On the passenger side it's flush against the bracket on the lower control arm.

I don't recall the issue from before the Overland spring upgrade, so currently I'm thinking alignment.

My pre-spring upgrade caster was 4.0 on both sides.
Current caster is: driver: 3.2, passenger: 3.9

Its going into the shop for maintenance and realignment mid September. We'll see what that brings.
