Front end dips/leans on turn

Not sure what to call it, lean, dip, bend...(flip over...feels like that)

1984 4runner

front leaf sprung, spring over, hi-steer, longer shackles, new shocks. Probably just enough lift to clear the hi-steer so 3"-ish

rear leaf sprung, spring over, 3-4" lift, stock length shackles

Truck sits pretty level.

When I'm coming to a stop and I turn right (passenger )for example; it leans in to the front left corner(driver). When I turn left it leans to the front right corner.

It feels like the corner is dipping in and the rear is coming up, like it will flip over like a 3 wheeler or tricycle.

Front leaves have very little arch and when this happens the leaves are pretty flat, I might say they might be reverse arching just a touch. My bump stops are setup so I don't hit my oil pan.

Do I try inserting another leaf? Get a new set of front leaves with more arch and reduce the front shackle length?

It didn't do this when I had arched stiffer springs and stock length shackles front/rear, but it was like not even having a suspension.

I'll only drive it close to home to keep the battery charged now. I've trailered for wheeling since it feels too sketchy to drive on the highway I'd rather not try turning sharp at high way speed.

Do you have sway bars? That is what they are for.... You could easily do some quick disconnects for when you are wheeling. However it sounds like your springs are worn out too and that wouldn't help. I would suggest new springs before you add a leaf as a temporary fix.

Sway bars may be the likely culprit, but there could be more as well such as worn out leafs or blown/too soft shocks. My sway bars aren't connected on my 85 and I don't have a problem, but the leafs and shocks are less than 2 years old from what I was told by the PO and the leafs look new. If it only does it when you're stopping, then the brakes could be involved as well

I'll see what I can do for sway bars. But it didn't do this with the stiffer springs, but the ride was awful. Fix something break something else.

I may get another leaf to stiffen it up for testing purposes and then get a new set If I get lift springs I may be able to go back to a shorter front shackle to clear the oil pan with hi-steer.

Thats the trade off. Are your current leafs used (rufs correct?) new springs at the same height would most likely give you a firmer ride.

Do you have a auto locker in the rear? If its trying to push straight it could also be causing some of the dip.
