front end issues

I picked up a 96 4Runner Limited with 136k that is in desperate need of a new steering rack, ball joints, and control bushings. What is the best place to try and purchase these items, and what other things should i replace while i have it all apart? the power steering hoses look fine with no leaking so far and the cv boots look good. I plan to replace shocks and springs in the next 6 mos or so but need to do this pretty soon. It has no power steering when turning right.
i posted at yotatech but no one responded.

Thanks, Kyle

Kyle,

I have a 97 SR5 w/150k and one of my very few non-maintenance repairs was having the rack & pinion replaced last year.

Seems to me that 4Runners do show some front-end wear at higher mileages; I sometimes hear a little popping & creaking when turning into my driveway. I think you're on track with plans for ball joints, bushings, etc.

Are you doing this yourself? If so, let me know how it goes...my ball joints & bushings are probably due as well, but I'm a little intimidated by the job. I've never really dealt with pressing ball joints, etc. etc.

Kyle,

One more thing...

If you do it yourself, I'd absolutely go with Toyota parts! It's one thing to go with aftermarket oil filters, etc., but when it comes to vital hardware like front end parts, I'd go with factory all the way.

yes, a mechanic friend of mine is going to assist me. I am going to use genuine toyota parts, but i cannot find anyplace that has them cheaper than the dealer, the rack is 900...
any ideas?
