Seems everything up front is original(225k) and about shot, I am interested in what you guys used to do a front suspension rebuild. All Toyota stuff or could I save some cash and use aftermarket? Any complete kits out there? Thanks!

ball joints and tie rods has to be toyota, everything else like CVs and sway car stuff can be aftermarket

moog makes some of the best front end parts in the aftermarket. I intall tons of them everyday and have no problem with them. it is really up to you. what you feel comfortable with

Anything else i should do will i am there? My steering rack is leaking where the shaft comes in, guess i should replace it as well huh? There goes my rear bumper funds! :redbrick: so, toyota stuff for tie rods and ball joints, the rest can be napa or whatever, anybody has a parts list please throw it at me, thanks!

Not everything has to be Toyota. The consensus seems to be you want parts labeled "555" as these are parts that come from the supplier that supplies Toyota OE parts. While I do not subscribe to the mindset everything has to be OE, you can find OE parts at a fraction of the cost of going through the dealer. RockAuto Auto Parts has some of the best prices and shipping times Ive found. All of the front end parts I ordered for my 2001 where Raybestos, relabeled 555 parts.

The upper balljoints do not see a considerable amount of load, so check them for play. If they are tight, you can save some money there. The FSM says up to 2mm of play is acceptable in the LBJ, but IMO if any play is detected, time to replace. The inner and outer tie rods are inexpensive and easy to replace. You can also upgrade the outer tie rod ends to Tacoma parts, but you will need to upgrade the LBJ to a Tacoma part as well.

Finally getting around to ordering these parts but I don't see any "555" raybestos part numbers. Should I just get the moog or beck?

If you replace the rack I would recomment going with new oem. I went through two remanufactured toyota racks in about 6 months. Its well worth it in the end to get a new rack. I really dont know much about any aftermarket racks. I know toyota oem are pricey, but it will probably be worth it in the long run

For suspension structural components (especially LBJ's and OTRE's) I would go OEM only. I know some people like moog, but I have gotten some crap stuff from them, and they don't seem very forthcoming on warranty information (their website is pretty terrible). That doesn't instill any confidence in me.

The LBJ's are not a great design, so you NEED high quality. They changed the design for the 4th gens so that the LBJ's don't fail catastrophically, but the 3rd gen LBJ's will (look it up here, lots of pics of this failure). It isn't worth the relatively minor cost savings on the LBJ's especially.

You wont see the "555" as part of the part number. The LBJ and outer tie rods I ordered from Rock Auto were raybestos "professional grade" relabeled 555 parts. They come in a raybestos box, but have the "555" in the casting of the part.

I had a MOOG UBJ installed locally because of some other issues.. This particular BJ was junk. Ive never had any issues on other vehicles using MOOG parts, but this one sucked.

I think 555 is one of the casting sub suppliers toyota uses. Alot of these bulky parts are remanufactured, so OME castings, raybestos rubbers, hardware, etc.

Oh and I forgot to mention, don't get Beck Arnley anything... They are crap.
