Not everything has to be Toyota. The consensus seems to be you want parts labeled "555" as these are parts that come from the supplier that supplies Toyota OE parts. While I do not subscribe to the mindset everything has to be OE, you can find OE parts at a fraction of the cost of going through the dealer.
RockAuto Auto Parts has some of the best prices and shipping times Ive found. All of the front end parts I ordered for my 2001 where Raybestos, relabeled 555 parts.
The upper balljoints do not see a considerable amount of load, so check them for play. If they are tight, you can save some money there. The FSM says up to 2mm of play is acceptable in the LBJ, but IMO if any play is detected, time to replace. The inner and outer tie rods are inexpensive and easy to replace. You can also upgrade the outer tie rod ends to Tacoma parts, but you will need to upgrade the LBJ to a Tacoma part as well.
