Front end

My '04 Limited is in the shop. I brought it in for a few different issues.

1. Front end was (still has the "buzzy" feel to the front end) sounding/feeling like a bearing issue.

2. Sunroof sounds like gears are stripping, now, will not close.

3. Indicator light for "PASS TEMP" is out, diode, not a bulb.

4. Driver's creaks and pops when rolling down and up (intermitant, more noticeable when wet).

I have the 7/100 toyo platinmum warranty. Service rep said that the right front and left rear bearings were bad, so far. He was informed that since these repairs are being covered by the warranty, once it goes over a certain monitary threshold, a rep has to come out and verify the work.

Does this sound kosher? I assume that these issues will be covered. What is my standing?

Maybe... I only know enough about item 1 to even hazard a guess. The rear axle bearings seems odd. Have you changed the differential fluid regularly?

How many miles? 2wd or 4wd? V6 or V8? Oversize tires? Did it have oversized before you owned it? What kind of tires do you have on it now, are they full? Some tires and/or a less than perfect alignment or poor inflation levels can induce the type of front end noise you're talking about.

It sounds like the Platinum Warranty is workin' out for you. That's good to hear!

'04 Limited, 4.7L V-8, original owner, 88,700 mi.

Yoko Geolanders, G51- HT/S, 36, 000 mi., 265/65/17, 5000 mi. rotations

Diff fluid changed@39,000mi. to Amzoil Syn.

Tires are road force balanced w/nitrogen, alignment is dead on, mostly highway driven.

Front brakes/rotors changed at 51, 000 mi., Toyota OEM. Rear brakes/rotors original, need to change soon.

Stock suspension, X-REAS

Borla SS Exhaust, K&N Cold Air filter kit (sounds like a 4 bbl. carb with the air hat flipped over, many surprised looks when going by with a lil' throttle. GF drives it from time to time to get an "audible" fix).

I had G51's installed one one of our company trucks. For the '03 reg cab, 6ft Dodge 1500 they're perfect. I like them. As they've aged (they now have 30k) the outer edge has created a bit of a buzz the second the steering wheel comes off of dead center. The edges have feathered a bit and that combined with the pattern has made a similar noise to what you're describing on our Dodge. It is not unlike a wheel bearing at the very early stages of failure. That might be what you're experiencing.

What I notice on the Dodge is immediately after a rotation it's still there but it feels/sounds a bit different. Again, the alignment and wear looks good, the tires ride well, stick well in the rain and are basically quiet except for the buzz in shallow turns. I like the tires well enough I'd recommend them with the caveot of this issue.

If everything checks out ok for you I hope this puts your mind at ease. Don't use it to falsely seduce you into "ah, it's fine" either. Good Luck!
