Front gear install?

If you don't know how to do it, don't do it by yourself. Precise measurements are critical when installing new gears. You have to get the Pinion depth, bearing preload, backlash all correct and working together. I dont know off the top of my head but i think backlash has to be set to about .007-.009" or somewhere close to that. It takes a dial indicator or a very good sense of feel and hearing to get it close.

You will also need a bearing kit for the pinion at least. I would say get a overhaul kit and replace them all since it will be apart anyway.

Another option is go pull another center section from the bone yard. Swap the whole thing out.

o wow... i sold my set of 4.56's for $200. have you looked around on CL and local scrap yards? might get lucky or were you looking for brand new ones???

Not for nothing, but I screwed around for a couple years with junkyard diffs and SAS swap cutoffs and never did get functional 4wd back until I bit the bullet and had my original diff rebuilt. I spent I think $75 on the ring and pinion, $100 on the master install kit from Marlin, and paid a local fellow I trusted $150 to set it up with the TrueTrac. That's not much more than the junkyard diff you're looking at, and has the benefit of knowing for sure your front diff is in perfect condition. You don't know what gears are really in that wrecker diff or what shape the bearings are in, etc. Dropping the front diff is a PITA, and installing it is worse. Do it once and do it right, is my recommendation.

Do you even know for sure that it's your ring and pinion that are shot?

Is it just the gears that have to be replaced?

Since I am not dealing with lockers is it really that hard to do myself?

No, bearings, seals, etc have to be replaced also. You need a master install kit.
Specialized tools and knowledge and experience are required, setting up gears is not a typical DIY. If not done right you can trash a new $200 R+P set.

Fourwd1 is right, let an expert handle it. Everything inside your diff has to be perfectly set up. I've done everything on my truck.. Lift, bearings, some seals, t-case etc... and when I got my locker, I just let a local mechanic take care of it. He's done a few before so he knew what he was doing.

YUKON TOYOTA 7.5"Reverse IFS Ring and Pinion Gears 4.56 | eBay

So it looks like I blew my front diff. So a few questions.

Is it just the gears that have to be replaced?

Since I am not dealing with lockers is it really that hard to do myself?

Does the link above sound reasonable as far as price goes?

Wow. Lately it really looks like you are taking to heart the old saying that if you aren't breaking anything you're not playing hard enough.

Mainly my toy. I have a little Mazda for a DD. I drive the toy to work once or twice a week just for the hell of it.
