Front Mount Hitch

No, the bumper was built around it. And Hyde is right, don't even think about winching until you've got six bolts in there instead of two. Better yet, pull the bumper and plate the crossmember first.

I'm just now seeing this. It has 6 bolts. There are 2 on each side also. Are you guys saying I should add more to the center? I'd rather just weld it if it would really be an issue. (I'm a professional code welder, so it wouldn't be a hack job like I see most home hobbyist welders do on their trucks)

The winch plate is also welded to one of the horizontals, so it's pretty heavily reinforced in my opinion. All the force would be pulled directly inline with the main frame rails. Nothing is attached to the weak front crossmember on this bumper. You couldn't even reinforce that crossmember more than this bumper reinforces itself with an the gussets.

Actually there are several options out there to reinforce the front crossmember
4xinnovations, T-G etc all have them
Mine is from northwest trail innovations. I just need to weld it in.

You could also take advantage of the two inner threaded holes and have 8 points of contact instead of 6

I've seen the reinforcements people have done, usually out of 1/4" plate. I'm not saying they can't be reinforced well, I'm just pointing out the way this bumper is mounted to the side rails, it's essentially another front cross member. Only made from double stacked 1.675" tubes gusseted to the base and the stinger. Probably more than could reasonably be done to strengthen the crossmember alone if it were an either/or situation. I looked at those holes, and it just seemed too close to the other ones to make much of a difference.

I've learned quite a bit of metallurgy being a welder, and the strongest welds are the ones that can maintain the same strength properties of the base metal. So when welding to code, there can only be so much reinforcement on the weld area. Making it too strong in one area creates a stress point that focuses the stress instead of spreading it out. Metal gives, and taking out any source of give can cause it to crack under stress instead of stretching. The difference between cracking and stretching of the metal is pretty obvious of the outcome on a bumper. So that's kind of how I'm looking at it.

thia is what I want to do as well,

attach a front mount cradle winch into a front tow reciever.. great setup!

any NEW info?
where to buy?

This is one version, first a 5mm steelplate will be welded outside the original thin front crossmember plate and reforcement on the backside as well.. the original nuts on the backside will most possible be replaced with the one as well. at the end the 10mm front plate will be installed.
