Front rotor problem

Had new brakes installed on my '03 4Runner Limited 4x4 17"wheels. Shop turned the rotors but they warped quickly. Same shop looked for new ones but found he could only get them from a dealer at dealer prices.

Any other places one could find these or are they suddenly propriatery?

Your 03 Limited 4X4 may have come with the larger sport edition type rotors. All of the other 4Runners came with smaller, regular sized front rotors. I know you can find the regular size rotors in the after market as I plan to update to drilled ones whenever mine wear out. You might want to check for your size rotors and pricing from a online vendor who advertises on this forum and is located at http://www.partznet.com

There are a lot of different aftermarket rotors available, I've checked. A couple are Bendix and Brembo (p/n 25858)

Go to Autozone, Pep Boys, Advance or any parts store and ask.

None of those rotors would fit. I had to go back to Toyota, almost fight with them to get the information, finally forced to purchase two rotors from them at a rather steep price. I am having these installed by the tire place that did the brakes and will retain the old rotors.

I'll also be taking one of them to an aftermarket place to compare their rotors side by side.

What I have been told is that toyota installed 318 and 338 mm rotors that year on th e03 4Runners.

If yours is a Limited and has 338mm rotors, then they don't match the standard. Only the Sport was supposed tto have had the larger brakes.

Mine is a Limited and Toyota tells me it uses 318mm.

Wonder now what the aftermarkets were. If they were 318, they would not fit. If they are 338 then they have the wrong ones listed.

I am scheduled to have these installed on Monday morning.

It could be several things -- the picker could have pulled the wrong package, the package could be mislabeled, the listing could have been wrong. But it sure sounds like you were sent the 13.3" (338mm) instead of the 12.6" (318mm). Good luck on Monday.

That was my first thought but the tire dealer got rotors from Advance, Autozone and called yet another local parts dealer. All sent the one on their system for an 03 w/17" wheels (that's how they are listed in their systems) but all were wrong. It will be interesting to see what happens Monday. Thanks

Take the OEM's back to the stealer. Then tell your shop to order the rotors for a 16" wheel. This will get you the same (smaller) rotor that is common for the SR5 & Ltd.

Great point - the 17" wheels must have led them to the wrong part.

I am having problems finding a Brembo

Well on the Brembo's in particular I just copied down the part number for the future but didn't check for them. But all the auto parts stores had at least one if not two or three different brands to choose from for front rotors.

Let us know if you find the Brembo's, they are my first choice.

Thought about that but there's a 15% restocking fee and the stealer is located about 30 miles from me.

Hate to give them the satisfaction of keeping 15%.

Would there be a place at Toyota that might actually listen to the facts and my complaint?
