Front Shock Assy/Compression

Got new Bil Hd and 881s. I had a local 4x4 shop quote me for spring compression and assembling top hats on shocks. They quoted $110/hr and said this typically takes them 2-2.5 hours. Sound right to y'all. I figured I'd pay under $100 to assemble the two front shocks. Am I crazy or is it them?

If that's going to take them 2-2.5 hours, it's time for another shop. Should take them 15 minutes with a wall mounted spring compressor. Are you sure they weren't quoting you for an install too?

Go to Advance Auto, rent a spring compressor (for free) and do it yourself. It's easy.

I agree with what the others said. They probably assumed you'd be coming in with your vehicle and that they'd have to remove and reinstall the assembly. Otherwise don't go anywhere near that shop.

I explained it to them clearly again and same deal. He said 2-2.5 hours and between $110-$220. Might have to give this a go myself.

Is there no other shop in your area? Any decent shop should have the ability to compress a set of springs.

I didn't like using those rented spring compressors at all. But I'd give them another try before paying $220. Call a different shop.

lol I don't think the shop gets it....
Go to another shop, you will find someone to do it. DO NOT PAY $220!! To do something that takes them 20 min!!! Just call another shop and ask if they can assemble your coil/strut assembly if you bring it to them.

Yup. Thanks yall. I'm taking them somewhere else.

I already posted this in a thread I started but I got the chance to watch the wall mounted press in action. If they charge you over $80 then definitely take it somewhere else. It took the guy 10 minutes to do one (probably not even that long) He could have done the second one quicker since the press would have been set up after doing the first but didnt have to since I did one side myself with the compressors from autozone

When I had my spacer lift in the front, I took the struts to the local Midas. They compressed the springs, added in the spacers, and reassembled everything. They only charged me $50.
