Front skid plates?

Are there any other front skid plates other than the Toyota one or the Jaos one? And those who have the toyota skid plate...Hows it hold up when force is applied to it? Does it deflect enough to damage the bumper? One more thing, Hows it mount?

The toyota skid plate is not very heavy duty at all, there is a guy selling the JAOS skid plate at the link below. I would have bought it but it wouldn't fit on my 06...

the stock aluminum ones found on 01-02 Sport Editions don't stand up to much at all lol

4 Wheel Drive and Sport Utility magazine is doing a build up on a 2003 4R V6. In the last issue, they installed an All-Pro suspension lift kit, and a front skid plate for an FJ. They said the skid plate fit up perfectly.

I am going BudBuilt, after having mangled a few THICK skid plates on my old FJ learned it is beter to have the best skid plates, so you can slide on them and not rip your t-case, tranny etc to pieces and need to be heli-lifted out. Yes, I have see a guy at Rubicon need to get his jeep heli-lifted out thanks to a skid plate failure. I have also seen a few Jeep's, an FJ and an early Bronce have to leave their rigs, wheel out a full day, then drive to town, round up a spare t-case, drive back to trail install it to get home. When they got back their trucks were trashed! Good skids are cheap insurance. JMHO.

Yeah, the stock 4runner skid plates are a upgraded version of tin foil.

Ah, c'mon guys. If your gonna mess up some stock skid plates, do it right.

Kidding, as much of a p of s they are. They definately took the hit instead of some other very vital components. And also, between v6 and v8's, 2wd and 4wd, there are differences in location of cross member supports and bolting locations. Just make sure that you ask the right questions of anyone you are considering in providing you with skids. As far as Im concerned, Budbuilts are damn near bullet proof from what I have seen on another members truck in person. I will be investing in some soon.
