Front Speakers

I have a 2004 t4r with the standard radio, no RDS or JBL.

The front door has a speaker in the bottom and a tweeter up high. When I start looking to replace them, I keep seeing this set up listed as component speakers and this setup has a crossover.

Does the stock front speakers have a crossover? If so, where is it located?

If I go to replace them, can I use the existing stock speaker wire at the door and then start wiring the new speakers and crossover from there or do I need to run new wire back to the HU?

IIRC the stock speakers have an in-line crossover mounted somewhere on the door. You could use the stock wiring to the input of the (aftermarket) crossover, but would run your own wires to the tweeter and woofer from the (aftermarket) crossover. I could be wrong, but the stock crossover is probably worthless to a pair of aftermarket speakers. If you plan to use an amplifier for the speakers though, it will be easier to run all new wiring to the speakers from the amp.

I was planning to install a Alphine KTP-445 pwer head that connects inline with the head unit. It supples 45W RMS x 4 and allows you to keep the wiring.

So I thought I would be able to connect some new component speakes in in the door. It would include the new crossover but I was wondering where the existing crossover may be so I could plan what I need to do.

pretty sure there isn't a stand alone cross over , its either built into the wiring or the harness. If you buy a component set that has a woofer/tweeter and crossover you won't really need anything from the factory stuff you'll simply connect the stock positive and negative wires to the inputs on the new crossover and run your own wiring from there to the tweeter and the woofer your inline amp and headunit will be further up the wire so you don't have to directly wire anything from there to the crossover it will push the extra power through the factory wiring to where you connected the positive and negative to the crossover

on the factory speakers, the tweeters have a built in capacitor to prevent the low frequency from popping the tweeter.

^^ This is it. There isn't an external crossover box like you see on aftermarket component speakers.

Did you get this working? I'll be replacing my speakers soon. Is there some sort of connector that plugs into the factory tweeter harness with bare wire on the other end to wire in a proper crossover? Which would then attach to the tweeter and door speaker. I assume each side's crossover can be stored somewhere behind the dash under each tweeter. Thanks.
