Front Strut/Spring (coil over :-D ) Replacement

190k miles and my front end is gaff / rear end is bouncing all over the place/bottoming out.

Decision/information paralysis....looking for a pre-built strut/spring (coil over I guess) for a reasonable price/quality.

I don't need lift or massive off-road capability, scared of the horror stories I've seen on cheap stuff (Monroe etc.) and just when I think I've found something.....it states "added 3inch lift to my ride..."...just don't need that on a daily driver..95% on road.

I really don't feel like buying/renting tools and building these myself, even though it appears painfully easy..if potentially a little dangerous!

Help! Please?

I settled on KYB Gas struts for the rear...may or may not replace the stock coils (truck is at 34" ground to fender - which I think is stock height for 2001)

As a didactic aside: The fronts are coilover shocks, not struts. Many people call them struts even though they aren't.

If you have the tools/ability to remove and install the front shocks, you can take them to a shop to have the springs, etc. moved to the new shocks for cheap.

KYB, Bilstien 4600's or OEM are all good daily driver options.

Thanks, yeah..I learned to call them coil overs from this forum....even though 90% of the world does not. I did put put it in braces.. ;-)

I have yet to find a pre-built option that isn't prohibitively expensive/overkill for my needs. Was hoping someone had :-/

I am in a similar situation as yourself. I purchased an 02 SR5 with 230k miles on it shortly after winter ended here in Denver this year.

I ended up buying stocks from Rockauto.com and the brand is Gabriel. I have heard negatives and positives in regards to Monroe but heard mostly good things about Gabriel and went with those.

I still have to install them as they are sitting in a closet on my balcony. I spent most of the day today replacing rotors and pads and also a seized up caliper. Fun times.

I hope this helps a bit in your search. I am looking up the best way to install these myself. Also a good thing to know about these is that they are pre-assembled so essentially unbolt and bolt on but I am looking at more specifics seeing if anything else needs to be done while I am down there.

I have the Gas A Justs and like them. Big improvement over 20 yr old parts. If you arent concerned with lifting; I would remove the coil overs and have a shop swap the springs for you. Shouldnt cost much and I would imagine you could wait there for them to do it. May as well buy new mounts too.
