Front Suspension

Hi guys. I'm a newb to the forum. I recently purchased an '06 T4R V6. My front suspension feels pretty weak. I feel every little bump and pothole. It also seems like it's bottoming out when i hit a big pothole. I'm hearing a somewhat hollow sound. What are my options to increase absorption, comfort and feel? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You need new shocks. Popular here is Bilstein 5100s. Can be had for $309ish shipped at Downsouth Motorsports - King Shocks - Fox Shocks - Bilstein Shocks

If you want to replace your springs you can do 4runner replacement or the popular FJ swap. I just ordered a set of new Moogs from

Moog-Suspension-Parts.com - A Dealer of the Federal Mogul Brand of Suspension Parts

Whole set for $138 shipped.

So for less than $500 plus installation you can restore your ride.

Don't want to hijack the thread here, but I've currently got four new Bilstein 5100's at home and I'm trying to figure out what to do regarding springs. When you got the Moog springs, did you get 4Runner replacements or did you go with the older-style FJ Cruiser springs?

Also, if I were to bring new front springs and the front-specific Bilstein's to a suspension place to have the struts pre-assembled, is this procedure something I could do without needing to use a spring compressor, or would I still need it to get my old struts off of the front?

Do a search, you can do the whole install without the use of spring compressors. I did my FJ and Bilstein swap by myself with just basic hand tools.

I order 2007 FJ springs front and back (I have a 2007 v6). They should be arriving any day now. Install date for new moog fj springs, bilstein 5100's and firestone airlift air bags will happen on Saturday after thanksgiving. I will documents the install in my upgrade thread.

FWIW, I am going to start with .85 setting up front and nothing in the back because Gaterose did that and it looks perfect IMO. But the neat thing is, if that lift isn't enough, all I need is another Saturday to pull the front struts and disassemble and reassemble using the 1.75 setting and install a $40 1.5" spacer in the rear and I am even higher.

What size springs did you buy?
