Front tires rubbing question

I don't understand much about this, but how could you have had rubbing without the spacers when you didn't change the tire size from factory? The factory tires don't rub and they are all the same size. Bridgestone Duelers that came on my 2017 are 31.65 high and 10.7 wide. These are exactly the same specs as the Nitto, K02, and all other 265-70-17 tires I can find.

I am putting a 3" ToyTec Ultimate lift on mine and keeping tire size stock. I do hope that I don't find rubbing after the lift. In fact I would think there would be less chance of a rub.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure either and I was surprised they rubbed but it was only in full lock reverse. I assume it has something to do with a difference in offset between the TRD Pro wheels and the wheels that came from the factory.

I too put my wheels on the outside of my spacers, I'll give it a try the other way and see if it gets rid of the rubbing.

Proper spacer width is just putting the tires flush or slightly inset on the fender......the 1.25 are about right for most applications and the thinnest I have seen in a hub-centric design. Increased scrub radius is the reason for more rubbing......just mod the mudflaps or fender lip. Looks killer when spaced correctly IMO.

My dad just purchased a new limited and has the TRD wheels. They rub slightly on the raised sections of the front liner at full lock. When I went under the car to try the fender liner mod I found that it isn't as effective and simple as it was on my 2011 Trail. I decided to leave it for the time being and possibly try a heat gun to lesson the bulge of the raised sections of the liner.

OP, I would imagine those spacers have made a minor issue a bit bigger like several people have already stated.

It's not the tire size that is the problem in this situation. It's the change in wheel offset from the stock wheels to the TRD wheels.

Aren't all 4 Runners basically the same configuration with different options. What is different in body design and clearance between the SR5, TRD Off Road, TRD Pro and the Limited. I realize the tire size and rim sizes are different, but I would think that the fender liners and fenders are the same. So, if a tire and wheel on a Pro will fit the Pro without rubbing, why won't the same tire and wheel on a Limited work?

Just trying to understand all this stuff before I get too deep into mods that might cause me problems.

Thanks for your patience in explaining things to this dummy.

The offset/backspace differences change the ''swing'' of the wheel arc as it turns through it's travel lock to lock....same wheel wells...different spacing on rims.

What's changing (due to spacers) is the sweeping motion. So when your tires are straight, they are smaller than when they are at a turned angle. The inside 'face' to outside 'face' distance is the longest (diagonal) and is when it runs. Pushing the wheel outward will cause it to rub the rear (the mini mud flap on the LE).

I'm running 275/65R18 on a 18x9.0 +0 wheel. The offset and wheel width will drastically change how the tire sweeps while turning... plus additional rub when going reversing (thanks to the front dipping slightly).

Try removing the 'mini' mud flap piece first before doing trimming mods that cannot be reserved.

Again, I still don't understand. I know the wheels are different, BUT, if the stock PRO wheels work on the PRO, should they not work just the same on the Limited? The OP said that the PRO wheels rubbed without any spacers, just in stock configuration. I would think that if the Limited and the PRO are the same vehicles except for trim and options, that the PRO wheels would work as well on the Limited as they do on the PRO if they are used stock without any spacers.

I am not trying to be difficult here and I know I probably appear a little dense to some, but what am I missing?

Thanks again for the information.

The fenders on the TRD Pro's are trimmed a little before arriving at dealerships.
The other possibility is that he is using an off-brand TRD Pro looking wheel (FN) that may be wider ect.

Got my sliders installed today but didn't have time for the fender mod. I think I'm going to hold off until I raise the front a bit. The rear is about 36.5 and the front is about 34.5. I'm hoping I don't need to worry about UCA's. Also, my wheels are OEM TRD Pros or I wouldn't have said they're TRD Pros.
