Front Tundra coils - Few questions..

2 questions on the tundra front setup.

1. I think I found the correct Tundra coil/bilstien assembly at a junk yard, but they said they do not see the part numbers. How can I verify they are the right ones? Is the Y/Y, Y/B marking enough?

2. Can these go right into the front of the 3rd gen if they are fully assembled, or do you have to use something from the 4Runner stock setup?

Alright. First off, there are a lot of threads on here that give info on this subject with tons of pictures. Search is your friend on this one. It is thoroughly covered, even if most threads about it only give 90% of the details.

The color codes should be the best way to determine if they are the right ones. They should look like this.



As far as plug and play goes, you are out of luck. The only component that needs to be changed out though is the top plate. You must use a 3rd gen 4Runner top plate. When you go to put the new (or used ones off your current struts) plates on, make sure to use the rubber isolator from the Tundra struts and not the one that comes with the 4Runner top plate.

I def went through a ton of info on the forum 1st. Just was looking for clarification before I spent the cash since they could not verify the part # at the junk yard.

I thought that was the case with the top plate, but was not aware of the isolator.. so thanks again for the info!!

I found that a lot of threads covered most of the info on this setup, but very few of the threads covered all of it thoroughly. It makes it hard to put together a complete picture when searching.

If I took the first 10 threads I searched about this topic and just went with exactly what they said, I would have been screwed.

This gets referred to a lot, but doesn't contain info on the top plates or the isolators for example. It is a good general suspension reference with enough info to help you decide how you want to lift, but not detailed enough to help you do the lift.

People talk as if you will die if you don't go with the y/y y/b TRD tundra coils. I am running the regular tundra coils and they are totally fine. They ride well and seem to give me the same amount of lift as the TRD tundra coils.

I am now running the non-TRD coils on adjustable bilstein 5100's to compensate for my bumper (and future winch) weight. Again, these coils are fine
